Hi all,

Firstly, wowzers, a long time since I posted here! I have traveled India extensively and stumbled, laughed and staggered through three six month tourist visa almost back to back. That was some years ago and after India I dedicated many years to travel in Latin America.

Now I'm back and I find India calling. However I'd like to do it it different this time. I'm a fairly well qualified EAP teacher and English Tutor with experience teaching at British Universities and plenty of ESL experience too.

I know India isn't a prime location for ESL/tutors but I'd really love to work there, preferable in Mumbai/Kolkata or would consider other big cities or even more rural or smaller cities too.

Can anyone foreigners who have successfully done what I'm intending to do give any advice? I guess just doing a voluntary stint on a tourist visa is an option, but I've done this already and would prefer paid work as I'm fairly well qualified. I actually want to write a book about India, and so actually living and working in India would be beneficial too me.

Any advice, as always, would be welcome.

Best wishes,

G.C.

PS mods, if this belongs anywhere else please don't hesitate to move it! Cheers!

Could try for an accent gig in Bangalore or Hyderabad or a number of places in India. Many people in India do English teaching including one of my relations who called to let me know he had a visiting post at a university here. You may want to look at the visa issues..

Get in touch with International schools. There is an American School in Delhi and Chennai. Maybe they can offer you a position.

Try a recruitment company like International School Service. You could also write to individual international schools in and around Gurgaon (there are many which are residential type schools, and some multilingual)
