Hello indiamikers!
I m new here, but I ve been reading posts since a long time! Thanks for all the information you are sharing!
I m from Germany, married with an Indian. We have two kids(7 and 3) and are thinking to move back to india, to settle down, start a nice little business and buy a house. We ve been living in Dharamsala for 6 years and are now in Germany for some time but want to move back, as fast as we can. Since an "outsider" cannot buy property in himachal, we are trying to find a new, suitable place for us. We love the mountains but also the beach (good combination, I know), donīt like bigger cities and need a place and where are many (foreign as well as domestic) tourists ( because of our business) I would love to have a good school and great (for indian standards) health system, for my kids, of course but other than that we have no problems with "low living standards" and don t mind not having western standards, if you know what I mean. But still, of course we would be happy to live in a pleace with at least a small expat community.
Sooo....Any advice?
I d really appreciate your help, advices and thoughts.
so thanks, in advance,
Sahera

Ps: sorry for my english (many mistakes)...hope you guys understand me still

I suggest you open an account on IREF (google it up please) and float a query for more knowledgeable responses. Regarding purchasing in Himachal, there are schemes for non himachalis from time to time but I've never checked as they tend to be quite expensive. http://indianexpress.com/article/bus...-second-homes/. Other than that there's a very long list of places you could choose from, am sure others would comment.

Your English is just fine. We tolerate much worse.

Thanks a lot for your quick and friendly reply and the information too. As for Himachal: I would dont think we would move back there, even if it would be possible (plus, in 6 years I have never met any non himachali who owned land there and those who tried, failed or gave up after years of battling with the authorities...), allthough I loved our time there and never would have changed a thing. Now it s time for some change and a place to settle. I know there are many places that could fit our choices, but I m just looking for some inspiration and opinions, from Expats or "ex" Expats ;-)
