So I read that india has given minority status to Jews. What are the monetary and political benefits involved and can i claim oci status based on grandfather from 1947 who left? We're white, not native.

First, you should know that "native" is a slur used by the British to describe Indians contemptuously in colonial times. Second, your whiteness is irrelevant to the OCI, and any "minority status" of citizens is irrelevant to non-citizens such as yourself.

If your grandfather had appropriate papers, you could possibly qualify for OCI irrespective of skin color. But you haven't provided any relevant information. "From 1947 who left" is not at all helpful---is there paperwork proving that he was Indian (a resident of British India)?

Where did "eventual dual citizenship" come from? This is wild. No, you will not get eventual dual citizenship. The OCI is just a lifelong visa.

Also wild because India does not allow it's citizens to have dual citizenship.

Five years stay equals five years stay... nothing else.

There are various eligibility requirements for citizenship. There is, I think, some concession given to OCI holders. But you have to apply: you get nothing by merely staying. Oh wait... maybe you get a tax bill that way!

Why do you want citizenship anyway?

This thread has now gone completely off the rails. Very quickly too. 5 years = citizenship, who knew? And apparently people are all to be referred to by their religion now, jews, hindus (except when described as white vs. native). Looking forward to what the OP will say next.

Do you have a source for the point that Jews have been allocated official Minority status? I couldn't find anything.

As others have said, India does not allow 'Dual Citizenship'. Please read this whole chapter:
http://indiandiaspora.nic.in/diasporapdf/chapter36.pdf

http://mha1.nic.in/pdfs/ic_act55.pdf

Also, please read the following completely:

From the Ministry of Home Affairs:
http://mha1.nic.in/pdfs/oci-faq.pdf

http://mha.nic.in/hindi/sites/upload_files/mhahindi/files/pdf/oci-faq.pdf

From the Bureau of Immigration:
http://boi.gov.in/sites/default/files/u4/oci%5B1%5D-faq.pdf

From the Ministry of Minority Affairs:
http://minorityaffairs.gov.in/sites/...Q_Ministry.pdf

From the National Commission for Minorities:
http://ncm.nic.in/constitutional_provisions.html

From other sources, not necessarily about Jews but about what Minority Status means:

Do you mean Indians instead of Hindus?

What happens to one (not declaring) if the authorities come to know of dual citizenship?

Hindus in particular?

But if you want to commit that crime... that's up to you.

The people that you have spoken to were almost certainly originally Indian, and then took some other citizenship, but did not bother to obey the law of their land. The PIO and OCI concepts were developed, primarily, to help such people have free access to their mother country without the fuss of applying for visas.

If you turn out to be entitled to OCI, why would that not be enough? What are your expectations? What are your requirements?

(As ever, ViShVa has gone to the trouble of providing chapter and verse. Do study it all. Do your homework: then you'll find us very willing to answer coherent questions to the best of our ability.

OCI is a lifelong visa. If the Indian passport was not surrendered and the fact discovered, then the visa would be revoked/withdrawn and most likely the offender would be barred from entering India.

Is it, ViShVa? (I suppose I too should read your chapters and verses ).

PIO was not a visa: it was an exemption from needing a visa.

If I could get Indian citizenship I think I would only settle for "non-dual". But since i'm a white native Brit there's not much chance of that!! KK
