Rules are easy in India: you can pay (bribe) and customise them as much as you want

Equally nonsense.

i agree

curtdfw i am 100% agree with you. we are fighting with corruption as a nation. and this gentleman is advising to do encourage corruption to a person who is new to India. really that's a shame.

It may not be India "proper", but certainly Sri Lanka is part of the Indian peninsula and they offer a retiree visa scheme. It's called the "My Dream Home" Programme. One needs to be over 55. deposit 15,000 USD in an interest bearing account in Sri Lanka and have 1,500 USD per month. India is just a short hop from Sri Lanka and the OP could spend 6 month per year there as a tourist without much problems

Wouldn't touch the place with a barge pole. Anyone who thinks my like live in Sri Lanka should ask themselves if they would have lived in South Africa in the days of apartheid, or whether they would like to live under any really repressive government.

Putting all such thoughts aside, though, it is a very good practical suggestion.

I only visited Sri Lanka as a tourist and I cannot comment on the political situation. I can only attest that the people are really quite welcoming and no one has tried to scam me into mailing gems home

I am not sure Nick if, as a foreign resident, one would be subject to much scrutiny. There were quite a few expatriates living there that I met, especially in Kandy, when I visited. But your comments are spot on and I was merely thinking about the practicality and easiness of obtaining a residency visa for the OP

There are very few countries that offer easy retirement visas in the region and beggars cannot be that choosy. I suppose.

I have many SL Tamil friends, I'd open my mouth and get myself into trouble.
