Other state vehicle in Hyderabad

Dear Fellow IMs,

I'm soon shifting to Hyderabad. Now I want to bring my Activa from UP to Hyderbad. The scooty is under the name of my father.
My question is do I need to transfer the ownership in my name to pay the road tax in Hyderabad ???
And can I continue with UP number in Hyderabad or I'd have to register the vehicle in Hyderabad again ??

Thanks and Regards,
Ashish Jain

Legally, you need to pay life tax again when you move to another state. But with a lot of people here from outside the state who come here for work, it is not a big hassle especially for a 2 wheeler.

But I need to pay...... right ??

Thanks Narendra Sir !

Thats what I said. Legally if you are moving and intend to use the vehicle for longer than 6 months, you need to pay Life tax. And you can (theoretically atleast) claim refund from the state that you are moving out of. A lot of people do not pay tax again or get the vehicle re-registered in the new state.

Just saw, the vehicle is not in your name. That can cause more problems. Get it transferred in your name and then bring it over.

Reza : You can keep the same number ( if you dont want to register your vehicle in AP ) but you need to pay road tax.
Thats my understanding.. Not sure if its correct as I still have to do the same for my 2 wheeler :)

Yes road tax has to be paid. Its amount is too high around 6000.So only we have sold our vehicle in Mumbai when we are shifting to Bangalore.

Hyderabad is currently undergoing extensive stopping and checking of vehicles, and frisking of humans going on. An out of state vehicle is not a good thing to be driving around at this time. So please understand and follow the required procedures for safe hassle-free travel.
