Hello Hyderabadis: can anyone suggest the best ways to learn about planned cultural highlights and events? I find that I typically only hear about concerts *after* they are held, which is very frustrating. At one point there was a fortnightly (?) magazine by the Tourist Board which had a What's On section but I haven't see it recently. Any good websites?
I see that there is a concert of Sufi music called Ruhaniyat which is held some Decembers but I couldn't find details for this year. I would love to hear some live Qawwalis. In some trips I have been lucky enough to attend some classical music concerts on Necklace Road but don't know how to find out about them. The Spic-Macay website doesn't have anything beyond October.
Any hints and suggestions much appreciated! Especially if you know of any unmissable concert.

Artists like Vaya Quartet, a band formed by four young Bulgarian singers will perform polyphony songs, Maheshara
Quite out of touch with with the happenings in Hyderabad these days, but I've been noticing a lot of interesting things at Lamakaan:

Wow, Govindpuri, that is fantastic, thank you for finding it. (I looked all over the net via Google for Ruhaniyat and didn't get this info, honest.)
Seems like a great event, one for my diary -- though the venue looks to be very far from central Hyderabad, I never heard of it...
Thanks Hyderabadi - haven;t heard of Lamakaan, will try to visit!

Not so far. Think distance to Golconda Fort. (which is closeby) .

If you want to be a bit adventurous, Nampally Dargah or aka Yousufain Dargah may be what you are looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dargah_Yousufain

Lamakaan is nice indeed but a very small venue. It is essentially a house with some open space around it. It has a very very reasonably priced cafe though (Tea/ lemonade Rs 10, Samosas Rs 10/- etc.). There's always something going on. I was there this Sunday.
The Ravindra Bharathi used to have good classical music and dance functions.

They still do, as does Shilpakala Vedika (next to Shilparamam crafts village). www.shilparamam.net/ShilpakalVedika.php

Thank you all for the pointers! A lot of links to follow, and find music to fill the evenings. It's good that some of the venues are publishing their schedule on line, considering they keep calling this cyberabad...

Well, the IMers above have done a great job in helping me find options for the time I will be in Hyd...

(I will be visiting TN (Trichy, Tanjore, etc) but doubt I can plan any music events. Does the December season reach out to the rest of TN?)
