Hello,

I have been to HYD several times, but typically I have my friends pick me up from the airport. My friends have since moved, and I am flying into HYD(it was the cheapest flight), but I am a bit nervous because I am arriving at 9pm. I am only planning on being in HYD for a few days. I am wondering what hotel's I should look into, and how I would go about getting to the hotel.

Any advice would be great, Thanks!

Hi and welcome to India Mike! 9 p.m. is not really late (many flights from the US arrive at 2-3 a.m.). You don't mention what your hotel budget is but in any case (especially since you're nervous) I'd strongly recommend taking a prepaid taxi from the airport to your hotel. Additionally, many hotels have cars that are available for airport pickup (all of the more expensive hotels do) - most times there is an additional fee (which is usually more than a prepaid taxi) but these are very reliable as well. Enjoy!

Wouldn't mentioning your budget help others to suggest hotels? Once you get the suggestions check with the hotel about organizing a pick up from the airport.

@Pani Puri - thanks for the reply! I am nervous about being able to get to the city, as its been a number of years since I was last in HYD. I would perfer not to pay for a really expensive hotel because I am not planning on being in HYD for a long time, but I am having trouble finding a hotel that would be easy to find in the middle of the night that isnt $50+

A Meru cab (radio taxi) will cost around a 1000 rupees to most of central Hyderabad. An airport bus will cost 300 and will involve getting down somewhere close to the hotel and taking an autorickshaw from there.

At around 9.30 or 10 (which is when the OP will be exiting the airport), the first option is better. Just take the lift or the escalator to the ground floor after you exit the terminal and you will see Meru radio taxis lined up near the food court/airport bus stand.

Both options are safe at that time, especially for a male.

I arrived at the airport at that time and had no problems at the airport, other than outrageous taxi prices! I went to a hotel just outside the airport and the guy charged 500 rupees!!

You may search hotels of your choice in Hyderabad by clicking here.

You may find multiple options which suit your budget.

Very young friends of mine went from one terminal to the other at Mumbai domestic and the rickshaw driver charged them $20 USD (Rs 1,200). Should have been a Rs 11 fare!! Had they not been in jeopardy of missing their flight (and not knowing the ways of India - they should have bashed the guy), they might have argued. No shortage of screwing foreigners in India....
