Advice on Area to Stay In (2 nights in June)
Hi everyone--My family (husband and I, 2 teenagers, and father-in-law, age 81) will be staying for 2 nights in Hyderabad at the end of June. We will be arriving on a domestic flight and leaving on an overnight train to Bangalore (probably a Rajdhani train from Secunderabad). We have never been to Hyderabad and plan to visit the Golconda Fort, Charminar, etc. (the usual places for first-timers). Could someone please give me advice on what areas of the city I should focus on for finding a hotel? Does it make sense to stay in Secunderabad if we are departing from there? Is the Banjara Hills area convenient for a 2-night stay? Once I have an idea of an area, I can search through the hotels forum.
If this question has been addressed recently and I missed it, please just let me know (and I am sorry). I saw some fairly recent "where to stay" threads but they focused on longer term stays.
Thanks so much,
Allison in Boston
(looking forward to our first trip back to India since 2008)

Secunderabad is too far.
Hello Allison,
If you are trying to visit Charminar and Golconda on the same day, then staying in Secunderabad is a bad idea as you will have to travel a lot.
Yes, Banjara hills is a nice option and relatively closer to tourist places than Sec'bad but Mehdipatnam is closer. I'm not sure about the range of hotels in Mehdipatnam but it is relatively closer and less expensive.
I hope this helped. Happy travelling!
