... One of my favourite books!

In fact, it is long enough to cover a flight, and quite a bit of an Indian trip, if not the return flight too

Richard Gere is My Hero

with that arrest warrant out for him, too bad Mr. Gere won't be able to see this movie in India....

Here's a poster for the movie:

The first "blurb" on the poster, praising the movie, is by a guy who happens to be a friend of mine ... and who is also in the film! Er ... a little conflict of interest there?

Gerbil Porn?

Ten years ago I was at an upstairs internet place, pecking away at the keys, while across the room a group of young boys were gathered around a screen whispering and quietly giggling. I'm pretty sure they were looking at online porn and I even got a quick glimpse of it (didn't know this was possible in India ).

Here's one case where exposure to pornography can have a good role: So people will have a little less ridiculous sensitivity towards silly things like kisses on the cheek.

Another question: was a gerbil involved in this, too? (key word: "in"!)

Looking at porn is very much possible in India. We have a government that would like to be able to censor the web, but attempts so far have been dismal failures.

So I'm sure your giggling boys (and probably many of the quieter ones) at the internet cafe were doing just that. Or maybe they were engineering students enjoying the finer point of some formulae... ...

Surpised

I must say, that I'm kind of shocked at the figures being thrown around regarding girls being raped. 80%? even 50% or 25% is totally so wrong.

I feel so sorry for females growing up in India then.

See also just for instance http://www.cer.truthaboutrape.co.uk/3.html
This leads on to http://www.cwasu.org/page_display.as...ATS&pagekey=35 , including for instance http://www.cwasu.org/page_display.as...=35&itemkey=37 .

And not to have a go at any particular country, you can probably find similar sites for pretty much anywhere (if at all covered). These are just examples of the first sites found on a search for +rape +statistics, as in this US site http://www.rainn.org/statistics/index.html .

it's particularly odd that a discussion about rape is in the "Humor-It Only Happens in India" forum.....

but as a volunteer at a domestic violence/sexual assault shelter, here is a link to the shelter's statistics page.

nothing humorous about it. you'll note that 50% of the shelter's clients between the ages of 3-10 for sexual assault are male.
