Me and my girlfriend are planning to travel to Kasol for about 2 days around 11th January. I have alot of queries

1) Although it seems safe, are there any security problems for a young Indian couple out there in the region?

2) Considering the Cold Wave right now, will the Roads be open? Also, would there be other tourists in that region these days?

3) The best way I have observed is to take a bus from Delhi to Kullu and get down before Kullu to get to Kasol. Are there any other options?

4) What are the possible accommodation options I will have there?

Thanks in advance.

Lightbulb

1. The place is as safe as Manali, i went there with my girlfriend and we used to stay out till 1:00 am, except for a snake that we met late in the evening, make sure you carry a flashlight.
2. The roads will be slightly run down, you might encounter patches of snow or ice beyond kasol. Carry woolens.
3. The best way to get there is to get down at Bhuntar and take a jeep or a local bus (fare: Rs. 25) to Kasol, just let the driver or conductor know that yer going to Kasol if yer going on the delhi-manali volvo.
4. Accommodation types will vary depending on the the type of rooms you are looking for. The tariff varies from Rs. 150 per night to Rs. 4000 per night. All the hotels/inns are located on either side of the main highway as Kasol is on the road to a pilgrimage spot also. If you are looking for a dirt cheap but clean place with hot water and the run of the kitchen(you cook yourself)I can give you a phone number.

Thanks for the information. I don't know anything about how safe Manali is but I guess it is pretty safe.

Won't there be any problems because of how cold it is in this season?

Mod Note: India Mike is not a forum which allows discussions about the procurement of drugs, or any other form of illegal activity.

Normally this thread would be deleted with a message to OP, however OP does have questions other than the drug procurement one, so rather than deleting the thread, I am deleting posts, and his question in his first post and leaving the thread intact for answering his other questions.

Yes it's safe ! But nothing is 100% safe anywhere and you need to apply your common sense to stay safe.

Hotels have central heating or will supply electric room heaters. Winters (in India) are fun...enjoy.
I did not fully understand the dread term "Terminal Illness" until I saw Terminal 1 D of Delhi Airport.

Kasol is virtually closed down at this time, you would be better off staying in Manikaran, try & find one of the GH's with Hotspring baths & ask for a ground floor room near the baths otherwise you'll Freeeeeeeze to death! A little tip is to take some empty glass bottles which you can fill with hotwater from the Hot Baths & Hey Presto! you've got yourself an hotwater bottle. KK

Go to kasol and you will find places to stay if you wish to stay in the villages let me know i can help you with some pointers..
Sonu is a nice chap.. he had a bullet motorcycle few years ago.. when i met him, he can help you a lot with lodging.

January will be really deserted in this area as any himalayan regions would be.. cafes umm mcleodganj will have cafes.. in kasol not sure if they will be open in kasol though !
Manikaran like someone said is also a good option one can relax in the Pvt hot spring bath in chilly circumstances.
Its a great experience to be in parvati valley in january..in 2007 i stayed in rudranag on the way to kheerganga for 5 days with a baba in his small hut on a frozen waterfall.

Enjoy the mountains !

Kasol in January

I was in Kasol last February and had a great time. There is gorgeous hiking around there. The hot springs and Sikh temple in Manikaran are a short distance away and make a great day trip. I'm still kicking myself that I was too lazy to visit Malana, the ancient vilalge where outsiders are consider untouchable.

The weather is cold at night, but pleasant. There will not be a lot of restaraunts open, but you will find a few good ones. Basically, you go to Kasol to get away from the tourist throngs (although you will still have plenty of tourists around they are more dispersed). You will see a couple of signs in Hebrew- it's the kind of place Israelis gravitate towards.

270 Odd Km, Overnight Pvt buses from Dharamshala/Mcleodganj To Manali. No direct Buses. All of them head to Manali Via Bhuntar. Get off at Bhuntar and Catch another Bus to Kasol/Manikaran.
