Hello,

I, and a few friends (4-6), would be going on a trek to Hampta Pass in early July. The trek ends on Chattru on the Manali-Spiti route. After the trek we spend one night at Chandratal.

After Chandertaal, we would like to proceed to Kaza over the Kunzum pass and then explore Spiti over the next week. The accommodation and itinerary is not a worry for us. We are not sure how we would be moving between places.

The transportation options we see are:
1: Local bus transport - this restricts us to buses which ply only once a day; if we miss a bus, we miss the day
2: Local taxi - not available at all locations, unsure of the rates
3: Taxi hired for the entire trip - will have to be booked from Manali, not sure of the rates
4: Bike rent for the entire trip - will have to be booked from Manali, not sure of the rates and feasibility

Request the suggestions of the people who have done this circuit. Local transportation contacts will also help.

Regards,
Kapil

If you reach Chhatru by say noon, you will almost definitely get some transport/ lift to Kunzum La (Maybe even Chandratal if you're lucky, but don't count on this). Other option is you can arrange someone from Manali to pick you up from Chhatru and have the cab for remainder of your trip. A ballpark figure for rental is INR 3000 per day. For bike rental, you'll have to get back to Manali. This transport could again be pre-arranged, or left to probability. The earlier you reach, higher are chances.

There is a Kullu-Kaza bus that leaves Kullu early morning and reaches Chhatru in afternoon. You may catch it.

We checked the rental rates with the cab association at Manali. They mentioned Rs 3000 for a Tata Sumo for the entire day.

Can anyone suggest a reliable owner/driver? One who has been to Spiti?

For the bus, we will be 4 people boarding midway with luggage. Does not sound very promising but can be a last option
