Hi,

Me and couple of my friends are planning for the Spiti Left Bank Trek in late May. That said, we're interested in Chandrataal as well and want to incorporate it in our itinerary. Based on some google searches I've come up with the below itinerary -

Day 01: Manali - Bataal - Chandrataal
Day 02: Chandrataal - Losar - Kibber
Day 03: Kibber - Langza - Hikkim - Komic
Day 04: Komic - Demul
Day 05: Demul - Rama - Lahlung
Day 06: Lahlung - Dhankar Lake

We need some help/ suggestions with the itinerary --

1. Is there actually any hiking trail from Chandrataal to Kibber? Or do we have to catch a bus, come to Kaza and then go to Kibber? Any further information on this front will be greatly appreciated.
2. What are the communications available from Dhankar to Kaza, Mud and Reckong Peo?

Dhankar to Kaza - you can get a passing bus or sharejeep but it will be crowded (reverse is much easier). Dhankar to Mudh - either a dedicated car or get off at the turn (attergu / attergo) and hopefully get a ride to Mudh. Kaza to Mudh there is a bus - not every day but in season (late may should be OK this year as not a lot of snow). Kaza to Reckong Peo - HRTC bus leaves at 7 am every day from Kaza bus stand (go through my TR in signature for details including photos of inside of that bus).

Thank you so much Vaibhav for all the information.
Do you have any idea about the Chandrataal to Kibber trail, if any?

Nope. I'd recommend that you do the trek only if you acclimatize properly. Higher than 4000 and me and the trip mates i found in kaza were all short of breath.

@Projjwal, subscribing to this thread!! I am also planning to do this same. Not this year though next year. We have a great trip report from L1S1 here, you might like to have a good look at it: http://www.indiamike.com/india/himac...logue-t239962/

I am not sure if there is a hiking trail from Chandratal to Kibber.

Read account of a route from Kibber to Chicham using rope basket.

Wow! That'll be exciting.

Btw, do you know anything about Kibber to Langza? Is it a trail or have to catch a ride?

Projjwal,

There is no hiking trail from Chandrataal to Kibber...off course you can start walking along the main road...Chandrataal has two trekking trails :

1.Barlacha La to Chandratal
2.Kunzum pass to Chandratal
