I am in Shimla right now, so hello to soul curry. The wet weather is not very good for visibility , being cloudy ,wet and humid.I though the raisn would have ceased by mid september but I was wrong.
The matter I wish to report is that Shimla's offices no longer issues inner line permits to solo individual travellers who wish to go by road to Spiti to visit Tabo and Kaza etc.
The man at the HPTDC office says they will give such a permit in Rekong Peo . As a result I will have to try my luck. The wet weather makes me want to see more of the dry trans himalaya. If innerline permits are no longer being given out to solo globe trotters such as I , who don't go on package tours arranged by approved travel agents or travel in groups of 4 or 5 then that is bad news for a lot of people heading for Tabo.
India has become much more expensive since I was here in 2008.
Why stay at home when you can see the world?

I'm not sure if things have changed at Peo or not, but when I was there back in March, they would not provide ILP for individual travellers and required a minimum group size of 4 people. We had to wait till we ran into two other travellers who were also waiting for a ILP and got a permit for the group. I believe in Manali you can always get a permit for even individual travellers.

Might want to double check on whether they provide the solo permits at Peo now.
