Hi,

Last year I planned for the same trip but didn't turn up.THat time, I received some valuable inputs from Vasuki, indracal. So, keepimg those in minds, again I have started to chalk out a trip to Simla-Chail-narkanda range in Jan 2011.

Need your help again...

We will travel with 9 people in group (4 aged, 1 kid,2 middle aged and 2 in their 20's).

The below itinerary I already planned for.But seek advice from your end whether all the places would be reachable in Jan end/or any other concern...

21st Jan: Start from howrah (Via kalka mail)

23rd jan: Arrive at kalka. take buses/cabs (Need input here for transportation) to Kasauli (Option for good Hotel/Temp in Jan)

24th Jan: Kasauli Sightseeing.. (Need inputs for range of places worth visiting)

25th Jan: Kasuali to Simla... stay at Simla (We already travelled to Simla before..any other palces instead Simla to put in...)

26th Jan: Sightseeing in Simla

27th Jan: Simal to Chail...at night stay (Need Hotel Info/Temp in Jan)

28th Jan: Sightseeing in Chail

29th Jan: Leave for Narkanda/Sarahan (Question is whether those places will be reachable, what would be the whether forecast/if reachable/good Hotel opetion)

30th Jan: Stay at Narkanda/Sarahan...if not then suggesst whether can we opt for Manali from Chail instead going to Narakanda/Sarahan on 29th Jan...

31st Jan: Leave for Kalka (Distance from Manali to Kalka or Narkanda/Sarahan to Kalka)...Catch Kalk to Howrah at 11'ish in night..

2nd Feb:Arrive at Howrah..Journey ends...
-----------------------------------------------
Few points to mention:

As we will have couple of aged person in our group. We will not be able to do lots of hiking/trekking...

My mother had her hip joint operation in April,2010, so I am trying to keep the travel itinerary as smooth as it can be...(little walk for her from road to hotel..)

Any suggestion/inputs are highly appreciated...

Narkanda - Jeori (from where you take right and go up for Sarahan) is on NH 22, so even if there is road block due to snowfall, it should not be blocked for days.

However, you must keep at least a day (preferably 2) in reserve for inclement weather conditions.

Assuming the kid and the aged people in your group can take the cold, it would be a tourist free tour at that time

Please look at IMD pages for weather conditions.

Shimla Weather info: http://www.imd.gov.in/city_weather/station/shimla.htm

I would presume that you would not need to pre-book at any of the places, being off-peak. Also keep the HPTDC numbers handy, so that you may call the location's hotel to get a price idea in case you are looking for hotels.

In Sarahan, the HP PWD guest house is a good option to stay, and if it's not booked, this might be a good option for you. HPTDC hotel Srikhand, though much costlier compared to HP PWD Circuit house, is much closer to the temple - think 7 mins (HP PWD CH) and 1 minute (HPTDC hotel) of walk for a person in his 20/30s.

Also you may contact the Bhimakali Temple authorities, to inquire about temple guest house availability and weather conditions. Their website shows some important distances as well.

I would not really suggest Manali, as that will be off the circuit of Shimla, though you can do it.

I'm sure other members would soon help. In case you have some changes in mind, you may want to put them here.
Did you wear the other person's shoe today?

I just returned from Chail-Kufri region. We could not make it to Kufri from Chail due to black ice on roads. Even NH-22 from Shimla was not even accessible on 1st jan 2011. Only 4X4 or bigger vehicles was able to move forward in that area.
