Hi all,

I am planning to visit Chitkul in July end. I will start my journey from shimla. As far as I know, there are only two accommodation in Chitkul (i) Thakur Guest House (ii)PWD Guest House. I will go for booking of PWD Guest House from Bhavnagar XEN office since most of the members mentioned that it is better than Thakur Guest House.

Kindly let me know: -

i. how much time it takes from Shimla to Chitkul by bus.
ii. Room Rent of PWD Guest House, Chitkul, what about food
iii. Any other destination nearby/in between Shimla to Chitkul
iv. how many days are sufficient in Chitkul
v. whom to contact for trekking.
vi. Best time to visit Chitkul
vii. Buses available from Shimla to Chitkul and back?
Regards

Rakesh

Any time is good time for Chhitkul!! Only .. in winters the pipes become blocked. July should be a great time to visit there. Not sure about the bus timings. From what I've read on IM, there are other accommodations that have opened up recently. I don't know how they compare with the PWD rest house though.

You can stop at Sangla on the way to Chhitkul. It is about an hour or so from Chhitkul. While it is not as beautiful as Chhitkul, there are a couple of small treks I believe you can do from here. And then there is Kalpa. That is also quite nearby. You may get a good view of blooming apple trees there. And of course the Kinner Kailash range just towers over that place.

Brother, go on searching this forum, you would get many threads refering to lot of accommodations availability in Chitkul. I am aware of
Thakur Guest House
Rani Guest House
PWD Rest House
Ajay Guest House
Raj Guest House
Panchali Resorts
Shahenshah Resorts

I heard a lot of recommendation on Panchali. PWD GH, I didn't find any first hand experience on that PWD here but as it's not a circuit house, don't expect food there. Also it's having 4 bedrooms and you may or may not get it considering July end is a season time there. Advance booking is also possible but comes with its own perils for PWD, follow relevant thread and posts by indracal, he has written a very informative post on the same.

Check in HRTC website for bus timing, fare and connections. I doubt if you have a direct bus between Shimla and Chitkul.

Have you checked the website here? Should be 250 to 350 per night.

As username_x already pointed out Sangla and Kalpa, may be you can explore Rakcham too. Rakcham comes between Sangla and Chitkul.

Open question brother, I don't dare to answer how many days are sufficient for any place in Himalaya.

Not having an idea but unless you are going to do some ambitious treking like Rupin Pass or so, hope you yourself can manage treking there. There are many treks available in the region based on your time.

Agreed with username_x, anytime you can go, have you seen the snowed out chitkul snaps posted by adventurenorth here? That is not in so called season time but aren't they out of this world?
