We are planning to Visit Sangla in May 2016 for one week. Please let me know weather in May and road conditions. Is it okay to take 3 year old kid? is there any medical facility available in this area.

My itineary would be

Day 1 Chandigarh to Shimla *(14-05-16)
Day 2 Shimla to Narkanda/Sarhan (15-05-16)
Day 3 Sarhan to Sangla (16-05-16)
Day 4 Sangla to Chitkul-Sangla (17-05-16
Day 5 Sangla to Kalpa (18-05-16)
Day 6 Kalpa to Shimla (19-05-16

Let me know if any changes please. Too eager to visit Sangla valley.

Regards

On day 4 - do you mean to stay the night in Chitkul?
If not then I would suggest to go to kalpa from chitkul instead of staying in sangla.

1st week of may should be fine weather-wise. Not too cold.

These places are not high enough to have altitude related problems. If you have a healthy 3 year old - then why should it be a problem?
The only semi-urban place in this area is Recong-peo. It has rudimentary health center. Other than that do not expect any medical facility. Carry common medicines with you.

Allow me to suggest looking deeply at this thread http://www.indiamike.com/india/himac...015-a-t240231/ for more info. Much has been shared about at the places beyond Sangla, but please pick info till Sangla only.
I am lazy enough to not break it down and spoon-feed. Sorry about it in advance.

@Vids , I am planning a week long trip (ex-Delhi) to Sangla in mid-April. Do ping me to share the discoveries. I have done Sangla on a motorbike before, in June 2015. This time I shall be doing it in a car with my family. It is my son's fifth birthday.

Personally, I don't see why you cannot do a trip in May with a 3 year old with no worries at all. But please do check against the community's wisdom. If you want, I can share local contacts. Do PM me for those.

CHD to Shimla is a trivial distance. Do it during late evening.
If you'd start in the morning, even after breakfast at CHD, I'd suggest you make Narkanda or Rampur (as applicable, given the distance and timing), as your first stay-over after CHD. Both these places take a few hours to reach from CHD. The road conditions are very favorable. Starting from Narkand or Fagu, next day, you can reach Sangla or Kalpa. Do take a call about staying at Sarahan, based on the road conditions at Karcham and beyond).

In 6 days, if you drive consistently through the day (not too rash or at night), you can get to spend 2 full days at Sangla+Chitkul. Please re-consider.

Personally speaking, I am very sure of a Sangla (or Kalpa) drive with family, during mid-April. I am sure of doing Delhi-Narkanda in Day1 (have done this route+distance in a day before). AFTER Narkanda, it is a relaxing drive as the traffic eases till Rampur and beyond Sarahan, there is no traffic at all (done this once on a motorbike). I hope this is reassuring

i did the trip to Kalpa in the last week of February 2016 ,we booked a cab from Shimla and reached Kalpa in 10 hours though we took several breaks

The road is in good condition throughout the way except last 30 kms stretch between Wangtu and Powari,so you can reach Shimla to Sangla in same day by car ,Sarahan is not in same league to Sangla or Chitkul in terms of beauty

Cheers

I booked an Innova cab for the round trip from Shimla and paid 10500 for 3 days
Driver name- Monu

09816206692
09459278235

I got his number from IndiaMike ,he is very experienced hill driver and he do Kinnaur and Kaza trip mainly
Roads in Kinnaur is a free-fall highway so take utmost care in booking cab

Hotel Kinnar Kailash Kalpa (HPTDC hotel) has best views of snow capped himalayas so you may consider it for your stay ,you can book it online

Cheers

Great! All the best for your trip; do share your travel experience and some photographs when back.

Meanwhile that seems like a reasonable price. Though 3 days roundtrip from Shimla sounds like you will be spending 1 day at Sangla. Is that so? If you wish to get your itinerary checked, share it here.

HPTDC Hotels are good to stay at. I am a priviledge card holder and can vouch thoroughly for the organization. You need to book those much in advance given the very high demand.

PS: You can send and receive PMs once you complete 10 posts on the forum!

  1. Day1: Very thin day, unless you want to just relax or do sightseeing at Shimla. If just commuting towards Sangla, then it is a waste of time to stopover at Shimla. CHD to Sarahan is easily possible on Day1.
  2. Day2: Shimla to Narkand is just 3 hours. Beyond Sarahan the roads may not be great so I advice against traveling there late at evening.
  3. Day3: Sarahan to Sangla is again too short a distance to reserve a whole day for. You can easily get Day3 to yourself at Sangla.

I'd suggest this:
  1. Day1: CHD to Sarahan (say stay at HPTDC Shrikhand; I just checked and some rooms are available; book soon if you want to ) If for some reason you don't want to do all the distance, stay over at Rampur. I know of 2 good hotels that I shall personally stay at with my family.
  2. Day2: Easy ride from Sarahan to Sangla and half day at Sangla to relax.
  3. Day3: Enjoy Chitkul and sightseeing in Sangla (Kamru fort, fish farm, etc.)
  4. Day4: Sangla to Narkand or Kalpa to enjoy the views and relax. May be some quick sightseeing, to say Hatu Peak.
  5. Day5 and Day6: Customize on your own--sightseeing, relaxing, reaching CHD early, etc.

@Blackfog: Day 1 i will be reaching Chandigarh around 4.30 in evening and planning to go to Shimla and overnight stay. And i think i have stretched too many days for this route. Can you please also suggest some other places to cover in this route.

please do not include anything else.
On day 2 I would go to sangla straight from Shimla. sarahan will seem quite ordinary after you have seen the other places in kinnaur.
Spend at least 2 nights in kalpa.
