Hello all:

We are visiting HP in July and have about 5 nights/6 days to devote to our visit. We have several proposals for the the usual Chandigarh-Manali-Dharamshala-Dalhousie itinerary. We will want to do some local shopping, of course, but I prefer beautiful natural scenery to historic churches and standard tourist spots. I have seen good things about the Parvati valley. Everyone seems to recommend Manali and Rhotang Pass, but should we delete Dalhousie in the interest of time? We will be hiring a private car and driver. How long to get to Parvati from Manali? Thanks for your experience, advice and impressions.

[QUOTE=DMullis52856;917627]Hello all:

Parvati valley and Manali lies together, abt a difference of 3 hrs to 4 hrs, depending on the weather conditions and road, enroute to Manali, which is a national highway, you take a right turn frm Kullu, which is a major valley city before manali,. i have been to Parbati valley 6 times, and it still amazes me,.

From Delhi to Kasol, or goshani (Parvati valley) wld be abt 18 hrs,.

Dalhousie is a neat hill station town, though there is nothing much to see. stroll along the road,.

try exploring more in the Kasol, Jari , Manikaran Belt,.

Lemme Know if you need more Information.

And how long does that trek take (coz I'd love to do it one day). Btw it looks very similar to Keushong trek in Sikkim .. which also I have seen in pictures only ..

Is this part of a larger India trip or is this 5 nights your entire trip? If it's your entire trip, I would choose 2 places to visit. Otherwise you will be spending too much time getting places and not enough time in them.

Also, you ask about "good" hotels. "good" means something different to most everyone. Especially in India. Perhaps you could be more specific but even better, look under "Forums" above and find the area you are interested in and also look under Hotels. Many people have given reviews. You can also use the "search" function above right to do more research.

Camelgirl:

Thanks. I have come to that conclusion; i.e. that most of the "packages" suggested by various travel agents are overly optimistic as concerns the required travel time. I think that we will narrow our scope, perhaps just focus on the Manali-Dharamsela area and pass on Dalhousie, Shimla. Thanks.

Hi,

If you are looking at absolutely stunning scenic location in Himachal which is also non-touristy/offbeat I would suggest only 1 place - Sangla Valley in Kinnaur region. Its heavenly, believe me! Checkout the tented accomodation at Banjara Camps - http://banjaracamps.com/Camps_Sangla.asp
Forget Dharamshala....you can get far pristine scenic views at Sangla.

Another place I will suggest for sheer charm of the resort location is Raju's Cottage at Gushaini (in Teerthan Valley).Care to be taken to the resort in a pulley-basket hanging over the river? That's the charm of aju's cottage for you..not to mention the lip-smacking food and cute cottage! Checkout this article on the resort-
http://www.kolkatamirror.com/index.a...xslt=&pageno=1

So if u have 6 days and you must visit Manali & Rohtang suggest this itinerray:
Manali & Rohtang - 2 days
Raju's Cottage - 1-2 days
Sangla - 3 days

Let me know if you have any other queries.

thanks. By the way, what would be the best vehicle for a party of seven? We generally like the Tempo traveler but I am being told that these might not be recommended or available there, that we would be better off with the Toyota Innova X2 . Your thoughts, please.
