I have been living in McleodGanj since late November but have been mostly in a small local network

I am trying to expand my understanding of the way things work, here...
I want to know more about Tibetan culture and appropriate behaviors
and
I want to know more about Tibetan Buddhism from a rank beginners' perspective (such as rituals)

where can I find someone to tell me about this who speaks proficient English? I cannot afford a professional translator but if anyone knows of a local who can help me I'd be really appreciative

I have other questions as well but would prefer a personal dialogue not an open post...
THANKS

if you are there at mcleod gunj then you could probably talk to any local.there is one tibetan restaurant called gayki near the main tibetan temple.she, the owner, is really a nice lady and tibetan too.iam sure she can give you plenty of information you wanted and moreover she is woman so you'll comfortable talking anything with her.she speaks nice english but her husband is better.
other IMERS will sure give better names to contact.

You could try The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA). They have free classes. From their website:

From their site: There are three classes of one-hour duration: 9-10am, 11am-12pm and 3-4pm. Monday classes are dedicated to meditation practice. This includes teachings on meditation, its preparation, posture and appropriate conclusion. http://www.ltwa.net/library/index.ph...mid=63&lang=en

If that is not what you are looking for, they could probably point you in the right direction. You could also check with the Tushita Center.

If you have questions on Tibetan culture and appropriate behavior send me a pm. I've spent about 17 months there. Just got back from spending a month in Mcleod.
I'm no great expert on Buddhism but even my limited knowledge is to complicated to communicate via the internet. i agree with the above posts. You can also buy a lot of good books there...
