Himachal Pradesh : Manali

I am wondering if this is Inflation , Exorbitant Prices or Just Stealing ?

i) A Jeep to Rohtang Pass which would usually cost Rs 4000/- maximum, now in the month of May is Rs16000/-

ii) A Car from the Bus Station in Manali to a drop at a Hotel near the Hadimba Temple charges Rs1000/-

Are these fares justified ? I thought the fares are usually decided by the Taxi Union or Do the Transport Authorities have a say in this .?

Hope better sense prevails .

Actually the taxi unions are very strong in Kullu Manali. They arbitrarily stop vehicles and check the receipts anywhere on the road. Usually done by some people claiming to be union guys (at times intoxicated as well). But there was a time when taxi fellas wouldn't drive unless the union is involved.
What you are saying means either the whole union has gone bonkers or the ever present palm greasing and looting has started seeping in here as well.

Rohtang pass fares have increased because of the permit issue(only 1200 issued per day). The cabs which get permits charge exorbitantly. There's no cap on that greed.
But I am surprised by hidimba temple rates. Only last year the rates were normal. I used to take auto from market to temple for 60-100 rupees

Spot On Saar Thats the main reason why all this Rohtang fiasco by NGT started in first place.
