June 1 - you are proceeding for Manali after lunch. That is not feasible. Better try out early morning in the same car....visit Vice Regal LOdge, then proceed to Manali...start for Manali before 10 a.m....do Lunch in between...there are plenty of Dhabas.
....life is a journey.....and the journey is more important than the destination........

Thanks Bhaswaran

Okay. That will save us 2 hours. Learnt that the State Museum remains closed on Mondays....May fit in the Viceregal Trail in that 31st slot then....what is the standard journey time from Shimla to Manali by a TAVERA / QUALIS / SCORPIO / SUMO [with necessary halts: Lunch, Tea, Photography (just a tourist, not a pro)]? 6-7 hrs? or more?

Did you cover all those monasteries in/near Keylong? I believe all except Guru Ghantal can be reached by car (otherwise Sr Ctzns will take rest that day). Where is your trip report?

No..I did not go to the monastries in Keylong. We had only one day at Keylong and went to Gispa and returned back.

I think a little bit of change (plans for 31st May & 10th June interchanged) will do me good....I'll get some extra time to enjoy Naldehra (reaching there fresh before lunch on Day 1 instead of afternoon on Day 10, dog-tired after the day-long journey all the way from Naggar) as well as Shimla (1 evening + next day until 4 pm). What do you think of it?

My Revised Summer Holiday Plan

29/5 Sat: HWH-KLK Mail
30/5 Sun: Train
31/5 Mon: Kalka to Shimla by Shivalik Exp; Reach Naldehra before lunch, Night stay in Loghuts
01/6 Tue: Check out from hotel after breakfast, visit Mashorba/ Kufri-->Reach Manali by evening; Night stay at Hotel Beas, Manali
02/6 Wed: Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa, Club House, Model Town, Vashishth Kund
03/6 Thu: Nehru Kund, Rahla Falls, Kothi, Marhi, Rohtang La, Sissu Village, Gondla --> Night stay at Hotel Chanderbhaga, Keylong
04/6 Fri: Khardong Monastery, Tupchilling Monastery, Guru Ghantal Monastery (4 km uphill walk from Tupchiling), Jabjes Monastery (at the foothill)
05/6 Sat: Udaipur, Trilokinath (Pattan Valley)
06/6 Sun: Lahaul & Spiti Museum, Shashur Monastery +/- Tayul Monastery / REST
07/6 Mon: Gemur, Jispa, Darcha, Deepak Tal, Suraj Tal, Barlacha La
08/6 Tue: Leave Keylong early --> Solang Nallah -->, Jagatsukh Temples --> Night stay at Naggar
09/6 Wed: The Castle, Roerich Art Gallery, Uruswati Himalayan Folk Art Museum --> Night stay at Naggar
10/6 Thu: Check out after breakfast; Reach Shimla by afternoon; Evening Stroll in the Mall Road/The Ridge/Christ Church area; Night stay @ Hotel Peterhoff
11/6 Fri: Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (Viceregal Lodge), State Museum @ Inverarm, Kali Bari, Jakhu Temple; Catch Shivalik Exp from Shimla @ 5-30 pm & connecting KLK-HWH Mail @ 11-55 pm
12/6 Sat: Train

Its a distance of about 130 kms. If you are planning to cover that in car, it will take about 3-3.5 hours and by bus will take about 5 hours.

Learnt that it probably depends on:
1) the time of the day (if you start early, chance of being stranded in `Rohtang La traffic jam' is considerably less),
2) time you want to spend in Rohtang La itself,
3) road condition especially beyond Gramphoo
4) halts beyond Gramphoo (you may want to spend some time in Sissu, Gondla & Tandi)
5) time of the year (season/off-season ---> tourist traffic burden, rain --> miserable road surface)

Everything taken into consideration, I should be happy if I reach within 7-8 hours with all necessary halts.
