hi

hi vinathorat

your itinerary looks good ,,,

your plan is for 20 days and you mention 11 days...

wagon-r is ok till manali but after manali in the month of may wagon-r is not advisable because of low ground clearance...

if you will hire any suv --cost around 2500rs per day to 3000rs per day..

and i think you should do chandratal on way back from leh because you coming back via manali and in may i dont think so that chandratal will be open.. so better you plan chandratal while coming back....

vikramyy is absolutely right, unless you have treking plan to Chandratal, push it as much later as you can.

Be in touch with adventurenorth, he self drove a Wagon-R in Kinnaur - Spiti - Chandratal circuit, You can find some snaps of the Wagon-R close to lake in this forum if you can find it out, though even he would probably say it's not adviceable and car with high ground clearence is always ideal for this circuit.

Also consider some tricky points like most probably (check in ladakh forum) you can't take a cab without private regn to place like Pangong Tso and all may be because of some self imposed rules by Ladakh taxi union. Check that if you have a plan to complete the whole circuit in one car from Manali to Manali.

WagonR and Santro have done the route happily - you have nothing to fear (just dont overload it).

my only doubt is chandratal - from what i've heard. Plus there are news of it being offbound due to the administration wanting to reduce the vehicular flow/pollution there (if i recall right, i may be wrong).
SMASH!!!!

don't try wagonR till july end u'll definitely get stuck. Try tavera, innova or scorpio. These roads are not meant for small cars. Although i traveled in WagonR did a trip of spiti via shimla & came back from manali side last year but i did that in July but my own experience says one should not try these cars on lahaul spiti road as if bychance you get stuck then it may cause a big problem for you.

charges for taxi= 2500rs/day to 3000rs/day depends on type of vehicle..

Hi Vinathorat,

As I was refering, Vikramyy mentioned about yellow plated taxis too.

Also in case you just go from Manali to Leh and then most probably a point to point charge would be applied rather than a daily charge.

Are you intentionally dropping Tso-Moriri or Lamayaru in Ladakh? Also Day5 and Day8 both includes Chandrataal. Chandratal doesn't come just on the way between Manali to Kaza or Kaza to Keylong, you have to take off 13 km from Kaza - Gramphoo road near Batal. So if it's not by mistake better may be to stay a night there rather than 2 visits. I am finding it difficult to manage Spiti in 5 and even 6 days, so 3 days including Chandratal may be quite stretched unless you are very selective about Spiti.

Can you include few more days so you can actually do the whole circuit via Kinnaur - Spiti - Lahaul - Leh. Otherwise may be you can skip Spiti (Kaza/Chandratal) and concentrate more on Lahaul and Leh. Actually the roads here eat up quite some time from much to and fro travelling. These are just some ideas, you are the best judge of what suits you the best and what you really want.

In one post somewhere in this forum I found Dhananjay mentioned a Tata Sumo should cost 1700 to 1900 per day for Himachal. I spoken to many and almost none quoted above 2000 for Sumo. But that increases with type of Car and for Innova it can be more than 2500 as well. Also number of days you are hiring and rush (demand in terms of economics) play a role in pricing.

But I am not sure about rate from Manali (Whatever I enquired all were from Shimla or even Chandigarh) and not sure about covering Ladakh. You can speak to Manmahesh Travels, I found about them here and seems they have number of cars, Contact number is +919418021444. Just give a call and ask rates of various cars indicating the number of days and places to visit. May be that could be a starting point.

Cheers!!

You will end up spending a mini bomb on hired transportation

Why not speak to Devil.Dj (on BCMTouring). He took his Santro car to Spiti. BHARAT on the same forum took his Spark to Ladakh (from Baroda). Google more

Max spend 5-7k on underbody protection. Own car is own car.
