Hi, I reach Delhi on March 19. And will directly head to Himachal. I need places with some serenity and not too many tourists, wouldn't mind a few days trek either. Snow would be a bonus

This is my third time in Himachal and every time I come with a vague idea of where to go and what to do and just let the road take wherever it wants to take me. Worked out well until now. Usually I come with a lot more days, but unfortunately not this time.

My first instinct was to do a mad dash to Kaza. With an itinerary like this:

I will be travelling in Himachal Transport buses, btw.

March 19, Morning - Delhi. Head to Shimla.
March 20 - Leave for Recong. Spend the night in Kalpa.
March 21 - Take early morning bus to Kaza.
March 22,23,24,25 in Kaza and explore whatever is nearby.
March 26 - Head to Recong. Travel Overnight from Recong to Shimla.
March 27 - Day in Shimla. And overnight to Delhi
March 28 - A day in Delhi and flight back home in the night.

But like I said, I feel like it will be a bit exhausting with all that travelling. Will it be worth it? I know how cold it will be. I am going for the isolation & snow. Also banking on road conditions to be alright. Planning to share a jeep wherever the buses won't run.

My other option is to take it a lot easy by going to Barot, Chota Bangal, and maybe Bir Billing. But it isn't exciting enough and there's not going to be much snow to see, is there. I am open to carrying a tent and pitching if am in these parts since it is not going to be as cold as Kaza.

Please advise and suggest. I have already been to Parvati Valley and Sarahan, Sangla/Chitkul, so I don't really want to do those places. Open to any other places and suggestions.

I hope you know that hotels and guest houses in Kaza open up after 1st week of april.
So if you go there in the last week of march except very Spartan living conditions.

I'm kind of okay with that. I've roughed it out quite a bit in my travels. So not expecting anything other than a place to put a mat out and be inside my sleeping bag.

Kashmir? Gulmarg?

p.s. Kaza will be as nayan said. Water in pipes was frozen even in Chitkul first week of may 2014 (see my TR in signature for details on the bus ride, it's not uncomfortable if you're OK with a crowded bus. However, if the weather's bad, there may be no bus).

Haha. I stayed in Sangla for a week and went to Chitkul for a daytrip and it was snowing so bad, I couldn't see beyond 4-5 feet. Came back to Sangla in the same bus. It was so beautiful though. So beautiful. I cried. I have some pictures on my IG: @sotterapiq if you're interested.
This was in April 2014.

Thought about Kashmir. Haven't really started looking too much though. Was thinking Himachal because I'm far more familiar with the state. I'll look into Kashmir. But Gulmarg? Isn't that really really popular with tourists?

Goddamit, Vaibhav, just finished my your Kaza TR and I can't explain how much I enjoyed. Good on you brother. It was quite a trip for me reading it, can't imagine how it must have made you feel.
Quite fascinating how we both were between jobs, almost took the same routes, the way we planned those routes (I used the map from mall Road like you did, using it for this one as well) and we did it only a couple of weeks apart!

Also, feel quite sheepish I suggested you check my photos on Instagram now
