Hi, We have 3 nights at Manali from 16th to 18thDec and have booked a return Kingfisher flight from Kullu. The flight is at 8.30 a.m.on the 19th morning. Now we are considering spending one of the 3 nights at Naggar. Can anyone please give any info on whether we will get a taxi/assured means of transport to the Bhuntar Airport early morning (considering its winter) from Naggar or should we stay the last day at Manali or Kullu.

Thanks,
Rajsree

There is a taxi stand at Patlikuhal bazar, across the river. I don't think there shud be a problem calling one in, but make sure you do the arrangements at least the day before, i.e, get the driver's fone no, etc. Also ask your hotel, they may well have arrangements with someone.

I have a similar itinerary the following week. We are planning at stay in one of the hotels in kullu. Why not stay there (it is about 6-7km and nearer than Naggar)? Transportation availability will probably be more.

Hmm, probably becos some people like to build their holidays around the experience/s and not the transport options/availability!
Otherwise there are hotels right across from the airport as well.

Hi Dilliwala,

I agree with you about the experience part but rajsree said "early morning (considering its winter)". So I felt it is better to stay in Kullu and travel 6km at 7:00 am rather than 25km from Naggar at 6:00 am. Though Kullu doesn't have many great hotels some options seem to be good like: HPTDC Sarvari, Apple valley, Shobla International etc. But I have not been there before and you seem to know more (from your knowledge of the busstand/surroundings) so I will not argue against whatever you say.

cheers,
Kumar

Manali area has no dearth of taxis. Ask your hotel to arrange one and getting to the airport won't be a problem at any time of the day. Manali thrive on taxis..!!!

I agree with you about the proximity of Kullu to Bhuntar (10 km), but Naggar to Bhuntar (38 km on the "old" route) shud be doable in 50 mins early morning. Of course there is now the Kullu bypass available which shud help further.

vasuki,
how much time/distance over the old route does one save for Naggar-Bhuntar via the bypass?

If you're planning to stay in Naggar, then only stay at Nagar Castle(HPTDC). We stayed there in July this year and liked it very much. You shall be able to manage a taxi to Airport from the street outside of Castle. I saw a travel office on the way from Castle to Tripura Sundari Temple which about 15 minutes walk from Castle. We took lots of picture of this place but unfortunately I lost my bag/camera a day before I left India.
Also...if you've time, must visit Manikaran. It's a beautiful scenic drive along the river to Manikaran.

A huge thanks to all of you for the information. Actually our hotel told us that there shouldnt be a problem getting taxis even that early from Manali/Kullu but Naggar may be a problem.

Anyways, my trip update is that Our flight from Kullu to Delhi has got cancelled (seems AirIndia is not flying there the whole month) and we hadnt kept any buffer for an overnight bus journey. Since even our onward flight to Kullu is not assured, we have changed our plans and trying to visit places around Nainital.
Am going to ask for suggestions to places there in a new thread if I cant already find anything.

Thanks guys,
Have a great trip Kumar

transportation to Bhuntar airport

Hi,

I just got back from Bhuntar, Manali, Kullu, area. I had a great driver for 3 days, his name is Ajay, number is... cell 098 053-68058 in Bhuntar. He also manages the airport taxi stand. a very good man. tell him Paul sent you. we had a great time together,

We went up to Rohtang pass ( very scary by the way ), and then to Manikaran, a sacred site with hot springs. Ride to Manikaran is not so scary, not too long either. Rhotang pass is one you'll be taking a lot of deep breaths while riding along, and it takes several hours to get to the top from Manali. that's on a good day. I was extremely lucky, practically ideal conditions, dry, clear, sunny weather.

Besides that, it's very easy to get to the airport. It's not far from Bhuntar hotels, and there are loads of taxis, and scooter rickshaws that you can take. They know the flight times very well. ask at a hotel. I stayed at Sandhya Pallace, clean and nice, another hotel.

It's very easy to get around. All hill stations have major taxi, bus, and truck junctions, with a variety of options, by bus or privately hired car, or chartered smaller bus.
