Hi,

I am travelling to Manali for Hampta pass trek with YHAI. I will be joining the 18th May batch, which ends on 26th. I am also doing a mountaineering course from NIM, at Uttarkashi, which begins on 27th May.

What is the fastest way to get to Uttarkashi from Manali? I can leave Manali on 25th evening (trek ends on 25th). Would it be possible to reach Uttarkashi in a day?

I will be a solo girl travelling.

Thanks

You may leave base camp on 25th May and reach Chandigarh. You will get buses for Haridwar/Rishikesh from Chandigarh.

There are plenty of options for Uttarkashi from Haridwar/Rishikesh.

There're two direct ordinary, bookable, HRTC buses from manali to dehradun - check hrtc site. Dehradun to Uttarkashi there's 'Vishwanath seva' bus - one each hour till 8 in the morning. If you take the first ordinary from manali, then it's possible to connect in DDN. More info (including ISBT DDN number, courtesy dilliwala) on this post - http://www.indiamike.com/india/trekk...5/#post1373866

you have two options (though i am not very very sure/ just a rough idea)
1) manali-chandigarh-dehradun-uttarkashi
2) manali-shimla-herbertpur (before dehradun)- uttarkashi

board overnight bus from manali on 25 (at approx 1900 hrs for chd and approx 2100 hrs for shimla)
i would recommend via chd route as you will get you more buses to dehradun from here instead of shimla.

vaibhav is spot on, that's the fastest way.

There are also Uttarkashi-bound UTC buses from Dehradun RS (5 am and 7 am), and share-jeeps from Parade Ground through till afternoon. Vishvanath Seva (TGMOC) also leaves from Parade Ground (departure now at 6.30 am, 8.45 am, 1 pm).
Another TGMOC bus to Brahmkhal leaving at 11 am can be taken upto Dharasu Bend. So the OP is bound to get something soon.

There has been some re-organisation in bus terminals in Ddn in the last few years as indicated above. The Manali bus will arrive at ISBT, from there one has to take a city bus or share-auto (Vikram) to the RS or Parade Ground as required.

Warning: Killer ride in store, specially the first leg.

And while taking Vikram, bring your own shock absorbers.

They're not that bad, no worse than any other auto. Which are also available (prepaid), from inside the ISBT.
