Hi everybody,

I am planning to visit Himachal Pradesh (Shimla-Manali-Dharamshala-Dalhousie-Amritsar) in the month of May 2016. The itinerary I have planned is as follows. Need suggestions and advices from experienced indiamikers as this is my first trip to the state. Before giving outline of my plan I would like to mention that we are a group of 11 (all family members) including a child of age 11 yrs and 10 adults with age between 20 to 46 yrs. Our total travel days are limited (starting 21st from Kolkata and ending on 31st in Kolkata). We are actually getting 7 nights to visit the places mentioned above.

21st May - Starting from Howrah stn by Himgiri Express (11.55 PM).

22nd -- whole day in the train.

23rd -- Reaching Ambala Cantt at 5.40 AM. Transfer to Shimla. On reaching Shimla hotel after freshening up local sight seeing in the afternoon. Evening at mall road. Night stay there.

24th -- Check out from Hotel after breakfast. Then Visit Kufri and then proceed to Manali. On the way visit Sundernagar, Pandoh lake, Mini Vaishno Devi and Kullu. On reaching Manali, if time and health permits then visit some attractions like Hadimba temple, Club House etc. Night stay at Manali.

25th -- Visit Rohtang pass & Solang valley (on way Nehru kund, Rahalla falls etc) and back to Hotel at Manali. Evening at local market place. Night Stay at Manali.

26th -- Check out from hotel, visit rest of major attaractions of Manali and proceed to Dharamshala. On reaching and checking into hotel visit some of the attractions of Dharamshala. Night Stay at Dharamshala.

27th -- Check out from hotel, visit rest of attractions of Dharamshala and proceed to Dalhousie. Night stay at Dalhousie.

28th -- Visit Satdhara, Panchpula, Kalatop, Khajjiar, Chamba and back to Dalhousie. Night stay at Dalhousie.

29th -- Check out from the hotel, visit the churches of Dalhousie and proceed to Amritsar. On reaching Amritsar visit Jalianwala bagh, Wagah border (beating the retreat ceremony). After checking in to the hotel visit Golden Temple in the evening. Night Stay at Amritsar.

30th -- At the early morning check-out from the hotel to catch Amritsar-Kolkata Super express (5.50 AM).

31st -- Reaching Kolkata by noon.

If there is any shortcomings in my planning then please advise. Also your any kind of comments, suggestions are being sought so that I can fine-tune my itinerary.

Also please suggest popular shopping articles of the region and where from we can do the shopping at reasonable rates.

Thank you.

on 26th : Manali to dharamshala takes around 8 hrs. So you will have to leave manali early and that too without any sightseeing. You should not miss palampur on he way.
On 29th : Again you will have to leave dalhousie early without any sightseeing because JWB-WB-GT will require time.

Dear aarosh...i know that my plan involves extensive travelling....our trip-duration is very short...will try to make it without skipping Manali. It all depends how much physically fit all the group members remain during the trip. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll surely post my experience after returning from the trip.
