to get from Kasol to tosh is fairly straightforward. The parvati river valley transport company (dont go by the name - these are ordinary buses) runs buses till barshaini. Hike up the last 4 kms. Bus takes about an hour to get to barshaini (stops at manikaran).

There's an olive garden in Tosh. No other cafes. There's a waterfall after the village. If you have 5-6 days either hike over to naggar via malana or go to kheerganga.

Best place is relative to what you're prepared to spend. There's a 'himalayan resort' few kms before kasol, runs north of 3K per night. I liked alpine a lot. Some people like sunshine, others like sandhya.

Hi Vaibhav,
When have you been there? Things have changed/improved a bit, there is a lot more cafes in Tosh.

The Olive garden you mention is above Tosh, a good 30 mins hike. There is a waterfall on the way.

Hi Kunal,
From Kasol you will get a bus till Barshaini. Make sure you start in the morning (say just after breakfast) if you are planning to go by bus. From the stop, take a taxi (private or shared, should cost 100/-) to get till Tosh (3 Kms). From there you can ask the locals to find where hotels are located.

For Hotels, I found HillTop was good and had the best views. Its owner Jai is a warm and welcoming guy, you can check with him for treks around the region. You have to go there to find out if there are rooms, since there is no telephone network yet in Tosh. If you don't find rooms in Hilltop, there are few more guest houses in the same area, Jai might himself help you to find acco in some other places. Don't go for the cheap places such as Pink Floyd (cheap in terms of rent, like 50 or 100 rupees per day) as they have a common bath/toilet which is outside the building.

-Sriram.

I went on 12th September 2011. I don't know how much has changed in six months. Most cafes were closed as the Israelis (mainstay of Kasol's tourism income) were more or less in a mood to leave after spending several months there. There was a shanti cafe as well that i recall. Anyways, I didn't eat at any of these. I went to the waterfall after the village (that's a good 30 minute hike certainly from the village)

The Olive garden is in Tosh at the end. More like 10 minutes walk. My point about Olive garden above was more in a humorous way as I was quite surprised to see that name in a place like tosh(it's a major sit down restaurant chain in the united states). Personally, I wont call any of those shacks as 'cafes' hence the response to the OP

No need for taxi from barshaini - it's a good, one hour hike i think to do the 3 kms or so till Tosh (the iron bridge before the village)

I went in the end of October. Tosh was full of israelis when I was there.

I am not aware of Olive Garden within Tosh, but its quite possible. There is a Olive garden after the waterfall, like 20 mins further up. It was closed when I went there. A chai shop was open nearby.

Ya, I too walked from Barshaini, its a good walk. But its better if there is some luggage or if you are tired from the bus journey etc. Anyways you have to walk another kilometer from the Iron bridge

Hey,
Missed certain points in your post, just reading again..

The restaurant at Hilltop can be called a cafe. There is music and good food, a bit pricey though. There is also a pc there, internet is available intermittently (using data card). Jai sits there all day playing chess with guests. When I was there the restaurant was full all the time because of the heating (tandoor in the middle) and it was very cold in the room. Also its the only place where internet is available, even if intermittantly.

So now there are two Olive Garden in Tosh.. May be its the same chain

Hi,
I am travelling to Kasol - Tosh - Kheerganga; during the second week of April for a week or so (not decided on return)

Will the road leading to Barshaini be in a motor-able condition? Would also like to know about the weather conditions and the amount of backpackers that will be around during this time?

Lastly, would Kheerganga be a possibility at this time?

Cheers

Road to Barshaini is in good condition & apparently you can drive to Tosh these days. Weather should be good by then, but you never know. There should be a few French & Italian backpackers around,it's a bit early for Israeli's. Kheerganga will be do-able,check out Pulga across river from Bershaini & Kalga. KK

thank you KK! This seems quite inviting! I was planning on breaking for a day at Kalga before heading to Kheerganga, but I should hit Pulga instead.

Are there any shacks where one could rent crash pads for bouldering in the valley? I would love to climb here and I cant seem to find any beta about this.

hello again!
I am planning to break my journey in kasol for a night or two and was wondering where to stay! A place that would have clean rest rooms and a good view of the mountains as soon as I wake up would be great! Have any of you heard about the THIRD EYE CAFE? Is that a good place? Any better options around with an orchard or strawberry fields?
Any suggestions in Challal? As I plan to head there as well...

Thanks in advance! Boom
