Gentlemen,

Need your help, I am planning to goto Dalhousie in my Swift Petrol and have been told to take this route:
Delhi - Ambala - Chandigarh - Ropar - Hoshiarpur - Pathankot-Banikhet-Dalhousie

And my questions are:
1. how is the road from Chandigargh to Dalhousie(please let me know of bad patches, if its a one way road or two way, busy/traffic on the road.

2. Where does the ghat area start from and how is the road in the mountains.

3. How long would it take to get there. Good dhabas, stopovers on the way after Chandigarh. And also nice resorts in Dalhousie.

Appreciate all your replies.

Thanks
Udayan

The route your are taking is right one and roads are good with no issues what so ever. driving is fun on this route as not much incline or loopy roads on this stretch. Its going to take 10 hours from delhi ( I took 11 1/2) in Alto). Till Pathankot is highway further fully matelled roads.

Good Food easily availble till before Ropar on highway Dhabas, Pathankot onwards look for good spot.

Pathankot to Dalhousie is 80 Km, mostly non hilly and just three hour pleasent drive.

Highly recommended Drive and Tour

I agree. I have done it with my Swift VXI and enjoyed it. After Pathankot expect hill drive which is pretty manageable.
A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it.

Hello IMers,

Well i want to tell u about ur route,

Delhi - Ambala - Chandigarh - Ropar - Hoshiarpur - Pathankot-Banikhet-Dalhousie

Its in very good condition, i did the almost same route in first week of may 2010 Itself (went to dalhousie from Hoshiarpur), very good condition of the road, i belong to hoshiarpur and go there 3 or 4 times in a year from delhi.

how about Ambala-Banur-Ropar-Balachour-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya-Pathankot. i just loved this path, all roads are good after dasuya a little bit of construction is there but road is moderate to drive. with 3 stops and average speed i took 4.40 hours to reach hoshiarpur from dalhousie, Pathankot to Hoshiarpur is 100 Km.

Pathankot to Dalhousie roads are very very good to drive i havnt seen such a wide roads on hills (travelled very little on hills).
Conditions ofthe roads are like they are new ones.

Enjoy ur journey and have fun, drive safe.

Go ahead

Hi

I think route suggested by simpleparab is good one

Delhi - Ambala - Chandigarh - Ropar - Hoshiarpur - Pathankot-Banikhet-Dalhousie

and it should be 640 km or so. Time taken by you will be decided by how you drive one highways.
All along the route highway was in good condition, saying that for today is not posssible as high rain is
lashing out at whole north India.

But for even modrately experieced driver it should not take more than 12 hours, experienced one can do it in 10 hours or so.

Anybody who is driving on delhi roads for sometime comfortably should not have any problem driving to Dalhousie.

Enjoy your trip and keep watch on weather if planning it in few days.
