Everything has pros and cons. For a family holiday I would say Dalhousie is the best. Very nice nature, good places to eat and a lot of possibilities for easy daily walks.

Sarahan has less action and I would not spend there more than 2 days (recommend Trehan's Hotel.)If if the weather is OK, you can walk along the old Tibet-Hindustan Road which is a very nice and easy trek.

Would put Sangla on the last place since you have only 4-6 days.

Hi Vmera,

I don't have experience with HPTDC's Shrikhand. Have stayed in Trehan's twice (without pre-booking) and found it very good. Would check if there is any special festival in Sarahan around your travel time. If yes, a pre-booking would be a good idea.

Roads are more or less great. Just a few bad stretches. But it doesn't matter whether you are in an Indica or Safari. Ground clearance or power are not an problem. As long as you can drive well in the hills, there should be no problems on this route.
The aarti at the Bhimakali temple starts at 7 (I think). So if you are interested in that, reach Sarahan well in time. HPTDCs Shrikhand is the best hotel there.
You can stay at Chhitkul instead of Sangla. It is a beautiful & scenic place. The Panchali hotel is a good place to stay there.

hi i would also like to vote for sarhan and sangla. I had travelled upto sarhan in january this year. Roads are really good (except at some places at rampur where the construction work was going on). The rest house at the bhimakali temple at sarhan is the best choice to stay. Rooms are decent, cheap and with almost all the facilities. We had taken a four bedded room for Rs.250 only. Comparing this, HPTDC hotel shrikhand was having doubles for Rs.1700 and these were off season rates. Can you beleive that? So try that. Sangla is really worth visiting. I have read a lot about it and would really like to visit it sometime. Enjoy.

How does one book the temple rest house?
Or just turn up there and hope for the best?

Also are 2 days in Sarahan worthwhile?

temple resthouse in sarhan

Bhimakali temple guesthouse ( 01782 274248) This should be the number of the temple resthouse but I think the advance booking is not possible just call and check.
