Amritsar to Dharamsala
Hi all,
I'm planning on going to India at the beginning of February for two weeks.
My plan is to spend one week in Punjab and then one week in Goa.
I'm thinking of going to Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj while I'm in Amritsar.
I have a few questions if anyone can help:
1. How long does the bus journey take from Amritsar to Dharamsala?
2. How often do the buses run? From what I've seen on the internet, they run in the late afternoon or night, are there any morning buses?
3. Is Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj worth visiting, is there much to do and is the scenery nice?
Many Thanks,
Ranvir

Hi,
The bus to Dharamsala takes about 4hrs,i know they do day trips from Dharamsala to Amritsar leaving Dharamsala at 07.00 in the morning so you can assume there is an evening bus back but i'm sure there is buses in the morning too.
Dharamsala is beautiful well worth spending time,in fact i've just returned from there and it was great!!

The bus travel is around 5 to 6 hours.
Where did you search for the bus timings? If you searched for them in the state transport websites then do note that only the buses that can be booked online are listed there. You could also check redbus.in to see what other private bus options are there.
Dharamshala / Mcleodganj is worth a visit if you have 2-3 days to spare. Check this forum for trips reports on Mcleodganj and places around like Dalhousie / Khajjiar / Bir Billing etc.
