@ Tarun

Would you recommend spending the entire week in the Sainj Valley to explore the tower temples and meadows, as against the other days spend between Banjar, Jibhi and Jalori?

I'm not that keen on Narkand as such, but Selosar is a must. An alternative can be to return via Mandi. This would add 1.5 days to my plan which can be spent at Sainj Valley.

your thoughts?

If anyone else can state their case too...in my humble opinion it depends on your interests. I think you did say architecture was one of yours...,right? In which case go for the tower temples.....but are you going to miss seeing the ones up at Banjar? For me the beauty of the valley begins from Banjar up, I'm more into scenery and not much of a temple visitor. For example, the hike to Saryolsar doesn't inspire me much, whereas climbing up the other side from Jalori Pass to Raguphur fort, the amazing view from there and the trek down to Gada Gushaini is way better, (for me anyhow), overnighting at the PWD and 7am bus back to Banjar.....home via Mandi.
So spoilt for choice.
Next trip, maybe?

Sainj Valley is a wonderful place to be and so is Banjar and Jibhi but my personal favorite is Sainj because that's less crowded and also those temples fascinate me. If I were to spend an entire week in that area, I would certainly not miss out the Skeern Yatra. And then head towards Shangarh. Those tower temples are special because sooner or later they're going to disappear, so you'll have to hurry to see them. The sooner, the better.

Shangarh, Manu Temple, Patahar Kothi, Ashapuri Tower, and Pundrik Rishi's Lake, these will take a minimum of 3 days, provided you're not relying on public transportation.

About Skeern Yatra, a deity has a rath (palanquin) and a insignia (chadi). Every alternate year they take the rath to the top of the mountain. This year, If I am not mistaken, the rath is to be taken to the top. They use ropes to ferry the rath without letting it touch the ground. So, it's going to be an amazing sight.

P.S. If you belong to the vegan brigade, you should avoid this trip.

Can you tell me where exactly this will happen? From Bagi temple up? Or finishing at Bagi? I remember around 1st week in June the deity is up in Ghiyagi for their mela. Will the procession start from there perhaps?

The procession will start from Chehni Kothi. The new temple is at Baagi and Chehni is a 15-20 minute walk from the new temple. The procession leaves on 13th.

Writersblock: Congratulations on passing the 500 posts mark! Although we're still wearing nappies when compared to Dilliwala et al.

Chehni Kothi has long evaded me.I've visited Baghi temple on various occasions but my local friend's health does not allow her to climb further up the steps so I can reach Chehni. Which I must do this time.....the angle of your photo shows a dangerous inclination to one side...so probably Tarun is correct in saying that these towers are all in danger of collapsing in the near future.

Spoilt for choice - Indeed! (@ Cinta Alam - all cases are most welcome )

I was looking at public transportation - so its more than 3 days in Sainj then.

Skeern Yatra is 13-14. I'd rather come from Mandi-Aut to Jibhi/Banjar first up, explore that area a bit, participate in the Yatra (this would involve a trek) then the Jalori area - Selosar/Raghupur and the remaining days in Sainj Valley. If in any case i miss out on Sainj altogether (or maybe just 1-2 days to spare), then probably another trip there next year. But I gather the Yatra would be something that works out this time and may not work later.

Fingers crossed.

I'm always up for a hike from Jalori and I'll be there staying in Ghiyagi till around 18th at least, so if you like PM me your contact number. I don't have an Indian SIM yet and doubt whether I'll get the chance to get one this visit.

There are places to stay in Banjar but it's a pretty hot, dirty little town. Better to stay up in the deodar area around Jihbi, at least, as it's around 2000mt and far greener and less dusty. Quite a few Buses go down early morn to get you to the crossroads which lead to Baghi and the way up to the Yatra.

@ cinta alam

I've set my sights on Jibhi mostly for accommodation - some nice guesthouses there ...
Ghiyagi = Shringi Vatika? read some good stuff about that place, and its just a few kms from Jibhi, so might be worth a try too

Spoilt for choice!

Yep....that's my favourite. And the owner was the Gur of Shring Rishi. His wife is a great cook too. Very few rooms and not budget like in Jihbi though.
Shringi Vatika contact numbers:
08894834310
08894669716
09459106728

Just received your PM. See you there, I hope.

@ Tarun Goel - some queries regarding the Yatra.

The yatra leaves on 13th and returns on 14th? What exactly is the 'top'?
The way I read it now, 13th night would be spent at the top of the mountain? In that case, we would need camping gear, right?

Also, wont we need to get permission from the locals to participate in the yatra?

Sorry if this comes off as silly questions - never been a part of a yatra as such, so clueless.

Sorry guys. I was busy, couldn't find time to check IndiaMike.

I did go to the yatra and it was an amazing experience. Almost 1500 people from entire Seraj Region (as far as Nirmandin Kullu) had gathered atop the Skeern Temple.

There was no need to seek permission as such, just that no tents were allowed near the temple. So we had to sleep without tent, under the sky, with hundreds of others.
