i cant say about the snowfall as its upto nature !

but i would say, few days back, it was snowing heavily in manali nd the highways were blocked and many people were trapped in their cars.
all i can say is , be prepared for chilled winters and the temperature will drop lower than 0 degrees celcius at night for sure.

local mall road, lakkad bazaar( wooden market) , local markets, etc.
there are 2 lifts/ elevators that take u down the hills on the road. u have to get tickets for those lifts.

there is an old church on mall road/ ridge.
upwards the church, the road goes to ancient jakhu temple of lord hanuman. beware of monkeys on ur way and especially in the temple and temple premises!

u can hav a horse ride , local taxies will charge u on per KM basis mostly but u can also discuss other options.
u can also get buses that run in and arround shimla specially for tourists.

kufri is another place arround shimla.

if u r an adventurous person like me, u shld also go for paragliding.

all i can say, u will lov your tour to shimla.

u will have to climb upstairs from railway station and u will find lots of local taxis etc and operators. when u reach shimla railway station, u will find local coolies ( kuli) , labour person who take up ur luggage and climb up the hill. they will take u to local taxis which are just on the upward side of railway station.
u will have to hire 2 innovas/tavera or ( 1 innova/tavera with 1 small car) . u r 12 members with huge luggage ,
u all wont fit inside 1 car and also, the car wont climb up hill due to being over weight.

i remember my trip to vaishnodevi yrs back, when we were 3 families and we hired 2 Qualis from jammu tawi railway station and we begun our tour going to shiv khori ( some 5 hours more or less, journey from jammu tawi station).
hav ur comfort and peace of mind.

if u can adjust and pack up nicely in one car with ur luggage , its upto u and taxi driver as ur hotel wont be at much distance from station.

regarding elevator, i wld say u that its on far other way and also, railway station is situtaed much higher than where that elevator starts running up from all down the hill.

theres isnt any need for advance taxi, u will find plenty much 24 hrs. u can easily negotiate and mostly all of them will have equal or approximate same charges. they will take u all the way to ur grand hotel.

remember, labour person who will carry ur luggage r poor people, they do most tiring job and get paid the least.
do take care of them aswell while paying them , they will only charge u according to the rates prescribed by indian railways. dont be hard on them on negotiating.

Dear W_Soul..........thanks for your very quick reply. I got a feel of the railway station and its sorroundings. Yes regarding the porters........yes i definitely pay more than bargained. When we are on a holiday.....we should also consider their HARD WORK....it would be a blessing in disguise. Any way thanks once again and if you could get a mobile number of some reliable taxi operator for local sight seeing etc...it would be even more fine. Thanks once again for your time and inputs. Good nite.......
