I may get posted for work at Shimla - at the Himachal State Electricity Board. I'm looking at a duration of about 5-7 months. Could anyone please help me understand the kind of options one has for accomadation in Shimla for such a period?

wow!!!! u r lucky to be living in a wonderful place. shimla is the capital of himachal pradesh. i have been to shimla so many times. i am sure u will lov to be in shimla as mumbai being full of pollution.
but, since few yrs , shimla has also changed up alot. hahaha, this place also has vehicle pollution.
its a great tourist place and not just indians but people from america, europe, australia etc love it aswell as like other indian hill stations etc.

u have been posted to shimla as u r in govt. sector job. so i guess, they must be providing you staff quaters. else , 1-2 room set. if u hav no accomodation being provided , then u can get nice cottages to liv for few months. obviously, u r not staying in hotels! u will have to look for residential areas , away from crowdy mall road etc.
u shld ask for accomodation from your company, else u shld take a room in hotel for 1-2 days when u travel to shimla with your luggage as u r from mumbai and u wont travel to shimla specially to find a room there!
after u take a room in hotel, u hav to talk to local people, to get a room on rent, u can get cheap cottages.
else, outer areas , u can have a rented room.
dont take a room in busy area. and also shimla is none cheaper than mumbai, though i wld say, even a poor person can manage to liv in mumbai but not in shimla. shimla being a mountaneous tourist destination , its costlier. though for local people, its not the case, but only for outsiders.
i am saying this coz i have been in both the places mumbai and shimla. also food is bit costlier in shimla than mumbai.

u know , i wanted to have job in shimla but couldnt find any! hahaha.
u will also reap health benefits by living here. not posionous air like mumbai or delhi.
but, yes air pollution has increased in shimla aswell.

u will just love to stay here.
