Hello! We're in Chandigarh and would like to go up to see one or more hill stations. We'd like to hear some suggested itineraries. Should we go to Dalhousie or Dharamshala? Or both? Or somewhere else?

Also, would it be best to take train and taxis or hire a driver?

Thanks in advance :-)

Both Dalhousie and Dharamshala should be nice. You may reach Dalhousie and then go towards Dharamshala.

But I would have gone towards Manali in this season.

If you are going to Dalhousie then do not miss Khaijar. Alternately you can also travel towards Simla-Manali-Rotang Pass

It is Khajjiar (a hill station in Chamba district located approximately 24 km from Dalhousie) not Khaijar.

Rohtang Pass is currently closed for tourists.

would an overnight bus from chandigarh to dharmashala be a good option? Or is it nicer to get the train to Pathankot and then a taxi? If so, which is the best train to get?

Thanks again :-)

Buses are available between Chandigarh and Dharamshala (Volvo at 10:10 PM).

You may check seat availability at http://hrtc.gov.in/hrtctickets/Availability.aspx

Yes, you will have to take trains from Ambala Cantt to Pathankot. There are around 35 trains.

There is not a single train from Chandigarh to Pathankot.

Keep it simple, take the bus. The train makes sense only if you're coming from Delhi. It's a long way around from Chandigarh to Pathankot, to Dharmsala the roads just cut through the hills.

There's also an earlier Volvo at 3.30 pm, allows you to see a little bit of the surroundings.
These are the buses that can be booked online, there'll be others which can only be booked at the bus station.

Hi,

May be this is a late reply. As you are already at Chandigarh, Kinnaur tour (Shimla - Narkanda - Chitkul - Kalpa) or Shimla - Manali would be better option. For Dalhousie/McLeoadganj the gateway is Pathankot and you have only five days. You may call Vinklle (+91 94592 62520) for an Innova.
