Jaipur is a busy city of 2 million people. Not the place I'd choose to chill out.

Definitely. Seeing "chill" and Jaipur in the same sentence threw me for a loop. On the other hand, at least Indian touts don't cry.

What about some place like Mount Abu?

Four trips to India and no poo on the shoe (except for a couple of my own mis-steps). I like Jaipur a lot, but the other Rajasthani cities mentioned are a must see, time permitting. My best advice would be to pack small, drink bottled water, eat hot food, and just stay loose. Most people are friendly and helpful. Have fun. Mind your head.

three things you should bring

1. your sense of going with the flow

2. a sense of humor

3. an open heart

everything else you can buy in India...

from one gutsy woman of a certain age to three others, have a great trip! I think y'all are at the best ages to experience Ma India!

I could spend a month in Jaipur at the Rambagh Palace. Tennis, pool, lounge, arts & entertainment, Elephant polo .... not a tout or hawker to be seen. Perfect!

Thanks everyone...I know it's still so far away but already I'm excited .
As for my 'chillin'...believe me I can chill out in Bangkok as it's an amazing city so I'm sure I will in Jaipur .
Only have 2 weeks as I'm leaving my family behind and taking my mum & aunt so we had to really decide what we wanted to see ~ and the pink palaces were in there , it will all be great , new and wonderful .

hellsbellsbaby,

With enough money, you can even make the touts disappear. Even in Jaipur.

That's the attitude to bring...as long as you bring your sense of humor and ability to see "wonder" in the way things are here and not the way they are advertised. It sounds as though you've traveled a good bit so you shall be fine as long as you don't cling to too many preconceived notions of what things should be like.

Good luck to you all and if you really wish to chill, come join me on an empty beach in Kerala and forget the big cities and poo. (And no, I'm not sharing where said beaches are as then they won't be empty any more. )

jaipur is cool. Stay in the Laxmi Palace hotel. Visit the Amber fort on the back of an elephant, eat great food at night. Visit the City Palace Museum, and as for poop on the shoe, it happened to my brother in Connaught Place delhi two years ago but he deserved it as he is a mean old son of a gun

Thanks for the welcome .
We're from Spain & we're off to India because we're desperate to see it , taste it and live it briefly . Not after anything fancy and most things we've got sorted already ~ but it's always god to hear opinions from seasoned travellers or people like ourselves .
