Hi IndiaMikers

I am due to fly into Delhi on the 6th october and have just heard on the news that Dengue Fever has its worst outbreak in a while.

Any news on the ground so to speak ? Should I just book a taxi to Haldwani from the airport or am I over reacting ? I am ony on a short 4 week holiday and really dont want to spend my time being ill.

Linking cleartrip to India rail has been a bloomin nightmare even though I faithfuly did step by step on instructions !! I gave up. I was going to plead with Tourist Quoto to get me out of Delhi on the 8th or 9th but now with this Dengue outbreak I am thinking bite the bullet and taxi it up. Only thing with that though is I WILL MISS OUT ON SHOPPING !!!! Argggghhh !

Also, can anyone recommend a hotel in Haldwani, I have been looking and cannot belive how expensive they are there !! It will only be for a few nights until I can get to Almora.

Thanks peeps, any advise welcome

Alison

No answer for Dengue. Just curious though why 2 days in Haldwani?

You probably know this already but Nainital is less than 2 hours by bus from Haldwani. A nice place to stay.

Are you going to Kasar Devi?

Hey Ananda

Its an 8 hour flight from London, and then if I do the Taxi another 8 hours in a car. I will need to land my head in India and recover fro the Journey. I like Nainital but I am meeting a friend in Haldwani so it suits me better. I am on my way to Jageshwar to run awau from this crazy world for a few weeks !!I am going to go stare at Nanda Devi and catch the sunrise !!

Jageshwar!! My favorite place in Kumaon! Was there in 98 and fell in love with it. Stayed at the KMVN Guest house there and would rather take my bath in the river than my hotel. With Dr. Bronners natural biodegradable
soap of course. Met some French dudes who were staying for months up on the ridge at Vriddha Jageswar. Man I miss that place!
You just got me jonesin' for another fix of that area.

I never felt at peace so much as I have up in Kumaon!

Do they have guest houses on the ridge now? Those French guys were staying at a chai shop when I was there. And I also remember a nice school building up there with a nice view and some kind of field for sports.

Yeah !!! Totally getting you Ananda !!

Its changed a lot in the last few years, Old jageshwar has still got the Chai shack on the ridge but when I was there in 2011 they were building right next to it. The Chai shack fella used to rent out his side room maybe they stayed there. I spent the whole night of Shivaratri in the temple with the local folk singing and drumming. They got some stamina, I almost fell back down the mountain the next morning I was so tired ! But what energy !!!!

I stayed at the goverment place in 1995 ! man what a place, a dump at the time ! I got taken in by the Kubara Pujari and stayed at his place for 3 months in the hills. Over time I have watched the kids grow and kept in touch with peope so its like going home. Tara Guesthouse is a great place to stay if you go again look it up. Very lovey chilled out people.

It is peaceful, and beautiful. I walk for hours there, love walking up through the terraces and just dropping in to peoples gardens for a chat.

So hence why I am running for hills, Gotta get out of this 2 bit popcorn packet joint for a while.

Aum Namah Shivaya xx

Sounds great! Wish I could be there with you. I'm jealous!

Hopefully one day soon!

Is that school still there at the ridge? Thought it would make a great hotel.
