Show me with pics/links your favorite shoes for being a tourist in India. I just read a thread that convinced me not to bring my hiking boots.

Thanks!

Merrell moabs are adequate anywhere except Himalaya. In sandals, as OiH said.

Try walking in stilettos as a tourist on Indian roads (as there are rarely any pavements) for more than an hour

Got to give the customer what they want.

Without any support years later you may have occasion to remember your folly of wearing chappals. Its called fallen metatarsals, plantar fascitis, yada yada. Then it will be as little as 60 yards.

Now what I always wanted but was afraid to ask were chappals worn only by the oldest farmers. They had woven cords instead of straps. Its like none of the above images..

I actually wear flip flops all the time but not if I am going to be walking more than a quarter of a mile. You don't walk normal in flops; your toes scrunch up to keep the flop from flying off. It causes me pain after awhile

crocs or it's knock-offs are doing great. My cheap Rs.399 knock-off is serving for last one year ;-), so much for the originals

so then why would you wear flip flops? walking barefoot is much better for your feet than wearing pieces of rubber.

what are "best shoes" for someone else won't be best shoes for you.

Merrell
Teva
Chaco
Keen

those brands all sell more supportive sandals

go to zappos.com and take your pick

this is advice from someone who's planning her 12th trip and has worn Keens and Merrells north to south and east to west.
love my Keen flip flops -- much more supportive than cheap FFs

Flip Flops or thongs as they are called in Aust ( nothing like the vic secret models ) offer no support.
Australians wear them everywhere, in India they should only be worn indoors ( excellent for showering in ).
Threw my 15 year old Teva's in the bin last month- got a dozen or more trips to India out of them, and have just run in a new pair, they feel good but not as well made as the last ones--- those brands Sama lists are all bloody good Merrell and keen's seem to fit a broader foot, i got chicken legs and feet so the Teva's suit me.
The Teva model i buy is based on a canoeing shoe so great for hot weather, just hose them down and walk them dry, and excellent support in the right spots.

Keens sandals on my four trips. Good supportive vibram soles and covered toes. Necessary for uneven "footpaths" and all the hazards your feet are likely to encounter.

don't get me started on the topic of feet -- being a reflexologist and someone who is barefoot about 90% of the time -- flip flops, plantar fasciitis, and/or orthotics, and how people exacerbate their foot problems.

as redninja says about Merrells and Keens, ya just have to try on different brands to see what's best for YOU.

I've worn a Keen sandal similar to this for years to walk around India. supportive and comfy.

and remember you get what you pay for.
