Hi al. I am hoping to visit Gujurat next year and will be heading to Bhuj amongst others. I am interested in photographing people in their traditional tribal dress but don't want to be touted around craft villages with all that that entails. Or all I think that may entail. I fear it will be along the lines other tourist hotspots I have visited where one is mercilessly pursued by trinket sellers. Also, I know there may be some who see this as wanting something for nothing. Please PM me if you want to berate me for this. Don't pepper the post with it. Of course it may not be the case in which case I apologise unreservedly for thinking it may be the case. So, can anyone tell me what my best bet would be?
Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.

Bhuj is a cosmopolitan town, like Southend is. For "Tribal" pics, the best bet would be to head out to the desert, the villages and the hinterland of the principal towns and cities. Most of these places are not touristy. You will find local people, some of whom will be "tribals" (adivasis), in some places.

They will be dressed traditionally in their day-to-day 'get do', going about their normal day-to-day business. Click away with a fancy camera, after taking their smiling permission first.

Get out amongst the people and you will find great photo opportunities galore. Anywhere in India.

Many thanks Vishva. Maybe I can hire a jeep and just get out there and avoid the craft villages. I will look into it.
