Hello friends , on coming 22nd December , I along with my wife and two kids will reach Ahmedabad airport at 9.30 in the morning. At around midnight we have a train to catch. So we need a clean and safe place to pass the 15 hours , within walking distance to the station . We plan to have a shower, leave our baggages locked in the hotel room, explore Ahmedabad a bit. Any suggestions ? A 3/4 bedded room will be most preferred, budget will max around Rs.2000.

You could consider Hotel Moti Mahal.

Why not try the retiring room at the station? You could book them online. Kankaria Lake is not far off. You can spend the evening there, come to station collect your luggage and then board the train.

Booking retiring room on IRCTC tourism webpage directly with your PNR number will be a good option for you, provided its available.
I have tried this method at Delhi and Mumbai stations, availing facility of retiring room or dormitory beds, and it proved to be very good for such short period transit requirement.

Unfortunately the only available option at the Railway retiring room is dormitory, which doesn't suit my needs. Will check out the Mani Nagar area. As the train that I have to catch is at midnight , I would ideally prefer something a just small walk away from the station perhaps. Do they have hotels that close to the station? Perhaps the best way out will be to go directly to the station straight from the airport, check out personally, what say ?

Did you check Moti Mahal? It is around 400 meters from the station.

There are other options near the station.

Moti Mahal is sounding attractive as they also seem to serve non-veg :-D. Will check the Sabar Inn too. Planning for a spot booking , with this cash situation on I don't think advance booking will be needed , plenty of empty rooms everywhere.

Moti Mahal (as I remember from my child hood memories) is a good restaurant-cum-cafe serving non veg and is a busy place due to its proximity to Kalupur main market area. Don't know if it will be good for a family stay. Spot booking will be a good idea to check the room & negotiating.
