Goa In Monsoons - September 2011 - Trip Report

Goa in Monsoons - September 2011 - Trip report

I must have visited Goa for more than 50 times since my first visit to this coastal state in December 1997. You must be thinking how lucky this guy is. It’s not the case. Except for two trips (To Palolem) rest all are work related trips. During these trips I try to find some time mainly during early mornings or late evenings to take a leisure walk on the beach or have a breakfast on the beach shack or check out some old churches. So here’s a trip report of Goa in the monsoons from a business traveler.

Calangute Beach
At this time of the year one would expect very few tourists in Goa but once I entered the approach road to Calangute beach it was flooded with tourists (mainly Indians, very few foreigners). It seems Goa has become an all season destination for Indians. The beach looked exactly the same it would look during season, families splashing water on each other, vendors selling all kind of fancy items, lots of honeymoon couples walking on the beach. One restaurant had put up 15 – 20 tables on the beach & their guests were enjoying candle light dinner. The only big difference you notice is the absence of water sports operator for obvious reason. However as you walk towards Candolim side you will find very few tourists & apart from few locals who are enjoying their evening walk there are few children playing football. This is where you can sit & enjoy the wild sea.

Baga Beach & River

Baga Beach & River
Despite visiting Goa so many times I had never been to Baga beach. So when one evening when I finished my work early I decided to check out Baga beach with the hope that there will be less crowd here as compared to Calangute. Since it was late in the afternoon I decided to take an auto rickshaw to the beach instead of waiting for the bus. Upon reaching the beach I was disappointed after seeing a big crowd enjoying their holidays.

During monsoons fishermen can not venture in to the sea for fishing which is their only source of livelihood. Saw this fisherman trying to capture some catch with his net. Some to sell in the market & some for his own consumption.

Merging in to the Arabian Sea is the Baga River also known as Riviera De Goa which originates from the deep and dense forests of Assagao and Bardez.

Saw this small but very colorful temple right opposite Baga beach before taking a bus to Calangute for an early dinner.

Green Green Goa

Green Green Goa

Goa becomes green during monsoon time. Every where you go there is lush greenery. Here are some of the monsoon landscapes taken during my stay in Goa. All of them are shot at different places during my travel from one industrial estate to another. They are so eye pleasing & presence of water in some of the shots make them more attractive.

OK, late arrival :shifty:, but I can mention that I have seen the photographs before reading the report :)!

Finally, you are posting the write-up ! Photos are beautiful, Ronak! How long did you stay there? Seems like you enjoyed the trip alone ;)?

Will be following the posts closely henceforth :).

Finally expert comments have come. I was there for 4 days. Enjoyed photography (in whatever free time I got after meeting clients) but missed my better half.
