Did this really happen? We need to be always careful. The first paragraph rang an alarm bell for me. Would never go with these touts.

[Excerpt]

Hi, My name is Sonia Bharadwaj and here I am going to share with you a Life Threatening experience I had on my last visit to the DudhSagar waterfalls in Goa. I seek your patience in reading this long story. It is important that I share every bit of it so that you guys never get trapped in a similar situation.

Horror story? Caught Twixt Life and death? Helpless?

Goa Prism: what sort of rag is that? What a disapointment.

Helpless... station 8-10km away...

Right: a couple of hours walk.

None of this was what the people wanted, or paid for, and doubtless it was a scam. But to describe it as a horror story is... Hmmm, a slight exaggeration.

I love the emotive language and the use of "Life Threatening experience".

I was going (despite the risk) to call her an airhead, then I thought: wait, she get's paid for writing, so it looks like I'm the airhead!

It hadn't occurred to me that this could be a complete fiction, but, supporting your suggestion is the fact that there are no original photos. Who would go to visit a fantastic waterfall in a wonderful jungle without a camera. And what journalist could resits snapping everything, especially if things suddenly took a bad turn.

As they say on the internet: pictures or it didn't happen. And there are no pictures.

Yeah I should have applied my "common sense" filter before posting this. One of those days when I was in the mood of watching a Salman Khan movie

But, on first reading, I believed the basic facts --- just not the blown-up hype.

If it is at all true, then many people, finding they could not complete the proposed expedition, and there was no other way, would have taken the railway and walked. Jungle trek with well made path. Biggest danger would have been have been been run down by a train. And that is something that all-too-many Indians are all-too-blasť about.

Had checked out with Google that all the pics come from from elsewhere.

The lady facebooks. I don't. I wonder if there is any additional material there?

A few days ago the locals blocked the track to Dudhsagar because tourists have dropped so much litter there it was even appearing in their drinking water.
It has never been as pristine as shown in nycank's picture - not even 10-15 years ago, and at this time of year there is very little water coming over the falls.
