How long would it take to get from Palolem to Anjuna using a taxi? or can it be done by train fairly easily?

I am guessing the market is a must-see???

Maybe but you can't buy the atmosphere,,,,,,,,,,
The Anjuna Flea Market is great for people watching. I've rekindled a couple of old acquaintences just by chance being there.

lowis, allow the best part of 3hrs to get up there. Or take a small bag for a couple of nights away, Bus to Panjim- Mapusa-Anjuna.

You will have to either take a taxi or the bus. The taxi cost will be quite a lot because a round trip from palolem to Anjuna is about 160 km. As far the bus is concerned you will have to first go to Margao and take another bus to Panjim. Get down and change to another bus which will take you to Anjuna. Total time should be about 3 hours.

thanks for the info everyone.

Jamie11 - don't want to hire a bike becuase i got knocked off one last year and the memory of the pain is still too fresh!

so...anjuna - i have heard some people describe it as a 'techno' market i.e. full of raver's trinkets, drug paraphernalia and other items of questionable taste. is there more to anjuna than this? i prefer traditional markets to be honest and don't really want to go all the way to anjuna to look at homer simpson bongs, jesters hats and neon keyrings...i can look at these in Camden Lock!

comments would be much appreciated. thanks again!

If you've got the time, anjuna market is definately worth a trip imho.
It's not all bongs and pipes, in fact this stuff only makes up a small percentage of the goods on offer. There's clothes, handicrafts, jewellery and lots of very tasty food. Yes, it's touristy but great for people-watching (i saw one of the most beautiful women i've ever seen there...she still haunts me!)

If you're in the area go to Mapusa market,It's open everyday (except sunday) though Friday is the busiest day, It's where the locals all come to sell their wares,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeah hiring a taxi for the day would be the best thing to do. A Maruti van tourist taxi will cost you about Rs 1200 for a round trip from palolem to anjuna.

Ask around at travel agents.....there's a couple of buses that leave from central points at Sernabatim Beach & Colva that take tourists very cheaply to the market as a day trip, leaving about 9am & getting back at 5pm.

I managed to find a few gems among the hippie tat & cheap mass-produced stuff, but it took thorough systematic searching. Lots of westerners have clothing & jewellery stalls & there are some talented people showing their wares, with some very original things, but you gotta look for them.
