I need rather urgently to travel from Bombay to Goa next week. I must reach Goa by a particular date. Now, getting Tatkal is a matter of luck , esp in the summer holidays.
So, I need to know more about the bus travel--Bombay-Goa.
1) Which bus companies should I prefer.
2) I would prefer State transport, if Volvo type is available. IF not, I go by private Volvo.
So, are there State Volvo buses?
Thanks

Kadamba is Goa states official transport. Volvo buses are available.

http://goakadamba.com/

In private buses, VRL or Paulo should be ok.

However, I would try tatkal - lots of train options available. I would prefer the short distance trains. But do note that the long distance train bookings could open up a day prior for tatkal, as the train would depart from the station of origin earlier.

I need to board from Chembur but the Kadamba website is not showing the exact boarding place.

It may be a very standard place but I have never taken buses from Mumbai so I am feeling a bit apprehensive.
Perhaps somebody here knows the boarding point of Kadamba buses in Chembur?
Thanks

I can see boarding point options (and Chembur in it), once you put in the date and have a look at the bus options on that date. Boarding point on the right, just below the price of ticket mentoned.

These numbers are hopeless. There is a Pune number but they refuse to answer questions about Mumbai.

Aarosh would have been helpful here..
Anyways - when do you leave?
You could just ask the rickshaw guys where the buses leave from - usually they do know it.
Chembur west is what the internet told me - but that may not help as much.

I got something better - these guys will definitely know and let you know as well. Just don't tell them that you will not be booking through them.
RedBus mumbai call center number - Mumbai(022) 394 12345.
They have Kadamba listed on their website and will know the exact location in Chembur.

I live at Sion near Chembur. Buses halt at Sion on the Sion-Chembur highway just before it passes over the harbour line raliway tracks. If you walk from Sion Circle it would be about 5 min.

They also halt at Chembur on the road that runs from Suman Nagar to Mankhurd. If you go by auto/cab look for a number of travel/ticketing agent shops/stalls along the road. (Also at Sion). Any cab/auto driver will take you to either of these places. You can also ask any of those many ticketing agents about Kadamba.

btw, I travelled from Mumbai to Goa a few years ago :

- motion sickness, I vomited at (Amboli?) ghat. Luckily I had a plastic bag so I vomited into it. But ...
- it was a AC bus and the air inside gets really bad. People were eating, f*rting, vomiting (in the bus) and since the bus was AC the windows were shut.
- my cousin got badly bitten by bugs (Neeta Bus)
- I love to look out of the window while traveling but since the buses only run at night I could not do that.
- I found the driver a bit rash. And many accidents on the the Mumbai-Goa road.

That's why I never travel by bus to Goa. I love the train journey. Esp by Jan Shatabdi.

Thanks gbr for the information. I have been able to get the train ticket--exorbitantly priced though.
