is there any filtering by the mods when sending private messages? Also is there a way to make our email displayed in the user profile?

PMs are not monitored or accessible to moderators, unless they are reported by the receiver and then appropriate decision and action would be taken by the moderators.

Any display of personal information in posts or profile is prohibited on India Mike - for safety reasons and also to avoid solicitations.

So if receiver reports, moderators can go through member PMs?
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

Kindly note moderation is not subject to discussion in public posts.
Moderators to take note of the same. Previous post is deleted.

It has got nothing to do with moderation, but with members right to privacy. PMs are private thing, and if admin, Forum leader or others have an option of reading those, this should be mentioned clearly.

If it is about some specific PM, a member can always forward the content to mods. Moreover, the culprit can be blocked immediately so that no more PMs are received, it is not a big deal. Right to access private messages, if it exists, is simply wrong.

Private messages

So... Mr Paranoia strikes again.

I'm not a moderator. I was a moderator.

There is absolutely no access to private messages. Zero. None.

What follows is basis practical computer science.... If it is your system, your server, you have the admin passwords, the database passwords, plus the skills, you can access anything. That is just the way computer systems are. You want high-security, encrypted systems? Don't use forums, bulletin boards... Or even e-mail... Because they aren't.

Seriously, next time you think people are spying on you, ask yourself why they would want to.

This is not a comment on moderation, but hey guys, a simple "No. Thread closed." as post #2 would have done the job.

I'd like to second Nick's affirmation. I am not a moderator either; I used to be a moderator.

PRIVATE MESSAGES are private. Always were and always will be.

Is there a disclaimer or privacy policy statement? Not that it matters.

Not on any forum, as far as I know, which I use. There may be a statement about who gets or retains copyright in posted text, photos, etc, and any rights that are granted by posting them. Or there may not.

This is basic computer day-to-day wisdom: assume that any internet commication that you make is insecure and could be read by others. As far as I know, the elder bro of such communication, e-mail, always was and still is (nycank?) plain text.

Systems such as Whatsapp advertise encrypted end to end: no-one else, not even Whatsapp themselves, can read the content. Until UK's GCHQ and their American mates find out how, of course. And if anyone knows what's in IM Private Messages, it's probably... GCHQ!

And this is the joke that I was not awake enough to remember for my previous post...

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that the world is not out to get you.
