Hi all. I am travelling to india on 18th march from england and returning back to england on 2nd april. I have an oci card and also a visa that I got prior to my OCI card in my passlodt.

My passport expires on sept 19 2018.

Am i ok to travel or is there any issues. I am hearing about 6 month validity etc. I am worried about going there and coming back as my return date of 2nd april would mean less than 6 months on passportm

The requirement for 6 months validity from date of ENTRY was so that a person with a 6 month visa could leave the country with a passport still valid.

Not sure if that requirement applies for e-visa still, as they are only valid for a couple of months.

The validity bit is from date when you arrive, not when you leave.

It depends on your airline. I have (in the past) entered India with few months left in the expiry of my passport, and left the country with few weeks left. I have also entered Brazil with similar conditions. The six month validity is in some countries, where most visitors come on a visa-free or VoA regime.

Going back to your own country on a passport that is still valid the same day should always be fine; no 6-month rules about it, ever.

I think that the "6-month validity required on passport" problems arise only in situations like visa free entry, though I do vaguely remember something like that for OCI too...

18 March to 19 September sounds like you're shaving it awfully close, if there is such a rule.... What if it's 180 days, not 6 mo? What if something delays your flight till the next day? ...

There is no final answer for you... I don't think you would be denied boarding, as you seem to have fulfilled all the requirements.
You may encounter an ignorant airline employee, but I don't think there is any real problem here. Just act confidently, don't ask anything, just get on the plane!

Last other option: Get a new passport quick!!!

1 day Premium service

You can get your passport the same day if you provide a completed application form, 2 photos and all your supporting documents. You can usually collect it 4 hours after your appointment.

You should take your existing passport to India with the visa in too.
