Surrendering Indian passport and applying for OCI from India

They say that you must surrender the indian passport within three months of receiving your foreign passport/citizenship. The current surrender fee stands at 5000. They will fine you for every travel that you have made on your indian passport since obtaining foreign nationality. There is a very good chance that they check your foreign passport for travels made between the time you obtained foreign citizenship and the time you eventually surrender the indian passport. They did it for me and found no travels. I do recall reading somewhere online, cant recall where, but it stated $250 per travel which then increases subsequently.

It is strongly advised to surrender the indian passport at the earliest and apply for an OCI and save yourself the hassle and expense in the future.
