I am british but my wife is Indian and has an OCI so i applied as a spouse. I rang the embassy a few days ago and they say I just have to keep checking the website!! annoying as I'm of to India soon and stupidly did not expect it to take this long!.. Has anybody else had to wait this long?

Thanks - Matthew

Hi Everyone,

I applied for my wifes OCI in April 2015.( currently British ) . I'm british now and I already have OCI as I was born and raised in India.

can anyone let me know what i can do?

I have called the VFS dozen times to be told the same story. wait for the status to change on the OCI status check. been to embassy in Birmingham-UK and was told to contact VFS who are responsible for this and to whom we submitted the documents

Online portal says- Awaiting Clearance from Govt of India.

Is there anything i can do? I emailed info@moia.nic.in with no luck

http://moia.gov.in/inner_page.aspx?ID1=244

Kindly advise

Regards

Rumour flash! If anyone hasn't applied for OCI on spouse basis yet, this is the best time to apply!! People in India are getting OCI number within three weeks of application! Not applicable to those who already applied, of course.

Me too!

Hi all,

I am also waiting for my OCI (applied as a spouse with my husband who was born in India and has had an Indian passport). Husband got his within 8 weeks, I have been waiting since July. Thank heaven for the new eTV which means that I haven't had to spend another 110 on a tourist visa as we are visiting in January!

It's really good to know that I'm not the only one. VFS have been as much use as a chocolate fire guard (no surprise there then), and also none of the Indian departments that I've emailed, or the Birmingham embassy have been of any help. Hopefully it's just a waiting game and we'll have it for next year!

Good luck everyone!

This week i've noticed that my last status update simply disappeared They don't ask me to wait for 6-8 weeks anymore. It seems that my joke about getting OCI card by the next Diwali will come true

So the rumours are true! Later applications are getting processed faster and without scrutiny.

The prediction of the embassy staff in Hamburg seems to have come true. The gentleman who called me last year in October said he expected the OCI to be processed in first quarter of this year (though he was personally thinking in January).

As of 12 Jan 2016 the OCI is now processed, and on 13 Jan 2016 it was dispatched to the consulate. We had applied in the end of July and the application was acknowledged on 06 Aug 2016.

The long wait seems to be almost over.
