Hi Everyone, I applied for an OCI in April 2015 and I am still waiting for clearance from the gov of india....
I am british but my wife is Indian and has an OCI so i applied as a spouse. I rang the embassy a few days ago and they say I just have to keep checking the website!! annoying as I'm of to India soon and stupidly did not expect it to take this long!.. Has anybody else had to wait this long?

Thanks - Matthew

Sounds right. Most spouses I know, who aren't simply converting their PIO's, haven't gotten their OCI's yet. The others started getting only in the last one month. Applications were put in as early as January, when the notification came out. I'm talking mostly about the applicants in India.

Hi,
We applied for an OCI for my husband (who is British), I have an Indian passport. Our application was made on April 28th 2015 and we have been waiting since!

I have emailed the embassy twice only to hear that we have to wait to hear back from the Ministry who takes the decisions in Delhi. Quite frustrating but it is hopeful to know that we are not the only ones with such a long waiting time.

Please keep us updated as and when you hear, thanks, Neha.

I forgot to add, we were in India last month and as we did not expect it to take so long, my husband had to get a Tourist Visa, do not fancy paying Visa fees when we are already paying for the OCI

I suggest you apply and get a visa for your trip Matthew as you don't know how much longer it could take.

I heard that in Germany OCI applicants are getting a free X visa valid for 12 months.
Different rules for different places.

I am a British PIO cardholder who has just had their OCI application processed in the UK. The website says timescale is 4-6 weeks, the reality was almost 11 weeks. But still not bad judging by some of the posts on this thread.
