Hi everyone, I know there are many forums about the visa process, however my situation is slightly complicated and I haven't come across anything similar. I am a US citizen currently living in Mumbai as a dependent on my husband's employment visa. It specifically says I am not allowed to work in India. However, I was just offered a part-time job that would not make the employment visa requirement of a minimum $23,000/year salary. Am I able to volunteer for this position instead with my current visa? Has anyone else had this issue before? I appreciate any information, or feedback thank you.

No, you can't volunteer for the position, as it also requires employment Visa, and it can't be issued to you as you are already in India...

Volunteer or paid, it's going to have to be totally off the books. There are hundreds of X-visa wives in India, at least a few dozen of whom must be more than housewives.

It isn't complicated or unusual. There are, as Matka says, lots of X-visa spouses, some of Employment-visa holders, some married to Indian citizens, etc etc, who would like to do some sort of work, but the conditions of their X visas say that they can't.
