I am planning to visit Imphal in Manipor & Kohima and Dimapor in Nagaland in April as a solo traveller and not as part of an official tour. I understand that PAP's to Nagaland and Manipor have been lifted but I can't find any official confirmation on the Indian High Commission website or the official Visa site. (I may just be incompetent) I am about to apply for a visa and book flights so if anyone can send me the link or any information I would be really grateful.
My provisional itinerary is
London to Kolkata
Kolkata to Shillong
Shillong to Imphal (via Guwahati)
Imphal to Kohima by road Highway 39
Kohima to Dimapor
Dimapor to Dibrugarah (by rail?) visit Tenskia, Ledo and Moran
Dibrugarah to Kolkata
Kolkata to London

Any comments? (3 weeks)

Hope someone can help

Its best if you fly

Kolkata to guwahati start your journey from here and head south.
(Bus)Shillong to Dimapur
through Nagaland to Imphal Then you dont have to back track. I have dont this trip a few times. You can fly back to kolkota from Imphal.

Hop this helps

check this link: http://pib.nic.in/newsite/erelease.aspx?relid=68824

About your travel itn, even I would suggest you fly to guwahati,
Guwahati to Shillong (taxi/bus)
Shillong to Dimapur (Bus)
Dimapur to Kohima (local taxi)
Kohima - Imphal (taxi/bus)
Imphal - Kolkotta. (flight)

Have you thought about visiting Sikkim?

I wouldn't encourage your trip to the other places mentioned, you're not missing out on anything, trust me.

Thanks for your help. I went to Sikkim in 2007. My first to India and wonderful! Kolkata, Siligori, toy train to Darjeeling jeep Kalimpong, jeep to Gangtok and back.
Do you think the upper Assam bit is really not worth doing? The reason I was interested in them was that my dad was there in WW2. Tenskia was the base instrument workshop. Ledo was the rail centre for forces & base for flights to China and has a War Cemetery as does Digboi. There was an air strip at Moran. Was wondering about staying by Saikhowa National park near Tenskia, but if you really think it's a 'no no' I have not booked anything yet so can reconsider.

Looks like you and Amahung are both saying to forget the Upper Assam bit. Do you really think its best to miss it out? Had thought about following your route but then getting the train from Dimapur to Dibrugah, still a rubbish idea?
Did quite fancy Ledo, Headquarters of Northern Combat Area Command is the start of the 470 km Stilwell Road named after General Joseph Stilwell once linking Ledo to Myitkyina in North Burma, now closed beyond Nampong in Arunacal Pradesh. "Sign 6km west of Ledo commemorates ‘Road to Mandalay’ but there is little else."
