Indian Tourist Visa for Canadian Born/Pakistani Origin

I've heard stories of how long it takes to get a Tourist Visa. I've never held a Pakistani Citizenship, and am looking to go to India only for a backpacking trip.

My friend who use to work at VFS global said he's seen some people in my situatiion who have gotten their visa's in around 2 months. But apparently VFS doesn't exist anymore in Quebec.

So can anyone tell me how long it takes to get one?

And secondly apparently you need references, how do I get some if I don't know anyone there?

Hello HK, welcome to IndiaMike

You should familarise yourself with the visa requirements, which (I think) are pretty clear and straightforward. Sometimes the decision-making by consular staff is not clear and straightforward, but that is another matter.

You should be prepared to wait around 2 months for visa approval.

The reference you need to list on your application form, should be the first hotel you are staying in (where, or course, you have a booking).

Applicants having Pakistani Passport or persons of Pakistani origin

If you, or your parents or grandparents have/had Pak citizenship, a different procedure will be applicable as mentioned below. Applicants falling in this category may please note that visa granted to them shall be for a short term, usually for a period of 3 months. It will be based on the specific purpose of the visit and may be further restricted regarding the duration and the places that can be visited in India.

No, you don't need two hotel bookings.

The visa form asks for two references, one in India and one in your home country (Canada in your case). If you book your travel through an agent, list them as your Canadian reference, and your first Indian hotel as the Indian reference.

If you have a link that says you need two Indian references, post it here.
